Changan's Deepal brand has launched the S07 AI Laser Edition in China, a battery-electric SUV that adds a roof-mounted lidar, an 800V electrical architecture, and a Doubao large language model to the existing S07 lineup. The new model went on sale on September 28, according to NetEase Auto.
Four variants are available, with limited-time prices ranging from 149,900 yuan (about $21,100) to 169,900 yuan (about $23,900). These are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives. The range-topping 725 Zhizhen AI Laser Edition and 725 Zhixing AI Laser Edition carry a 725km CLTC range, while the 600 Zhizhen and 600 Zhixing versions offer a 600km CLTC range. In real-world driving, expect roughly 15-20% less, so a WLTP estimate of around 580-615km (est.) for the 725km versions.
The exterior is largely carried over from the current S07, with the most visible change being the lidar unit mounted on the roof. A smart active grille automatically adjusts its opening based on speed and driving conditions, and the car now uses semi-flush door handles. Dimensions are 4,750mm long, 1,930mm wide, and 1,625mm tall, with a 2,900mm wheelbase.
Lidar-based ADAS and Doubao AI
The headline feature is the AI Laser intelligent assisted driving system, which combines an end-to-end algorithm with a world behavior model and 27 sensors, including one roof-mounted lidar. According to NetEase Auto, the system covers urban, highway, and parking scenarios: it can handle roundabouts, unprotected left turns, narrow-road passing, and mixed pedestrian-vehicle traffic in the city; support ramp entry and exit, intelligent lane changes, and speed adjustment on highways; and manage extremely narrow parking spots, dead-end roads, and wall-adjacent spaces, with remote parking, walk-away parking, and trail-reversing functions.
The cabin introduces the Doubao large language model, developed by ByteDance, with three core functions: a dedicated agent, emotional companionship, and broad connectivity. The AI can plan routes from a spoken sentence, such as "refuel first, then drop a colleague at Guanyinqiao, then go home," and allows adding or removing waypoints by voice while driving. It also supports voiceprint recognition to identify individual occupants, remembers preferences over time, and can detect emotions like happiness or fatigue to respond accordingly. A child-specific voiceprint triggers a fun mode for younger passengers.
Inside, the S07 AI Laser Edition features a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch 2.5K rotating central screen, a 55-inch AR-HUD, a 4.2-inch rear touchscreen, and expandable screens for front and rear passengers, creating a six-screen setup. The cabin is wrapped in suede-like microfiber, and front seats offer zero-gravity recline with 16-way driver and 14-way passenger adjustment, plus ventilation, heating, and massage. A 4.7L smart cooler/warmer box is optional, with a 3-20°C cooling range and 35-50°C heating range.
800V platform and 6C fast charging
All versions come with CATL cells and an 800V high-voltage fast-charging platform. The system supports 6C high-rate charging, and Deepal claims the 725km version can add nearly 400km of range in about 9 minutes. The electric motor produces 190kW (255hp) and 290Nm of torque. The car also features an I-TECH smart battery management system that monitors cell temperature in real time, and a cloud-based vehicle health monitoring system with claimed warning accuracy above 99%.
Standard equipment includes FSD+HRS adaptive suspension, which adjusts damping in real time based on road surface frequency to reduce body roll, pitch, and vibration. The S07 AI Laser Edition is available in five exterior colors and three interior color schemes. A comprehensive safety package includes 24 active safety functions, such as automatic emergency braking for irregular obstacles, accelerator pedal misapplication prevention, side obstacle collision prevention, and road-surface-adaptive AEB for low-grip conditions like wet or icy roads.
