Changan has taken the wraps off two new hybrid models in Jinan, the CS55 and UNI-V, both powered by its in-house iDE-H Blue Whale hybrid system. The launch event, held on September 19, was themed around bringing hybrid SUVs into the "70,000-yuan era," according to a report from NetEase Auto.
The CS55 Blue Whale hybrid is positioned as a family-oriented SUV, while the UNI-V Blue Whale hybrid targets younger buyers with its fastback styling and electric tailgate. Both models use the same iDE-H system, which Changan says requires no external charging and offers strong performance with low fuel consumption.
CS55 highlights: economy and quietness
Changan claims the CS55 hybrid achieves a city-cycle fuel consumption of just 3.89 L/100 km, with a maximum range of 1,500 km on a single tank. The company says the 0-60 km/h sprint takes 3.9 seconds, and the cabin features active noise cancellation for a library-quiet interior at around 40 decibels.
The CS55 comes with a multi-link independent rear suspension, Nappa-texture leather seats, and 21 active safety features as standard. It also won first place in the J.D. Power 2026 China New Car Quality Study for compact premium SUVs, according to the report. First owners who follow the maintenance schedule receive a lifetime warranty on core hybrid components.
Changan said the iDE-H system has been developed since its Blue Whale powertrain brand launched in 2019, with vehicles using it sold in 115 countries and regions, totaling over 10.46 million units.
Pricing and positioning
The company did not disclose exact prices at the event, but the "70,000-yuan era" theme suggests a starting price around 70,000 yuan (about $9,860) for the CS55. The UNI-V hybrid is expected to be priced slightly higher given its sportier positioning. Both are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.
The launch event in Jinan included test drives, a vehicle unveiling, and a delivery ceremony for eight首批 owners. Changan said it will continue to expand its Blue Whale hybrid lineup, aiming to offer hybrid performance at prices comparable to traditional gasoline cars.
