BYD passenger-vehicle exports hit 209,394 units to Brazil in Jan-Aug 2026, leading global top-10 list

BYD's passenger-vehicle exports from January to August 2026 were led by Brazil with 209,394 units, followed by Australia, the UK and Belgium, according to data from Gasgoo Auto Research Institute, with European markets making up five of the top ten destinations.

BYD's overseas push is broadening across multiple regions, with Brazil emerging as its single largest export market in the first eight months of 2026, according to data from Gasgoo Auto Research Institute cited by D1EV (First Electric). From January to August, BYD shipped 209,394 passenger vehicles to Brazil, far ahead of any other destination, with battery-electric (BEV) models accounting for 110,386 units and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) for 99,008 units.

Europe takes five of the top ten spots

Australia ranked second with 81,297 units, followed closely by the UK with 66,759 and Belgium with 66,504. Germany, Spain and Slovenia also made the top ten, giving European markets five of the ten largest destinations for BYD passenger-vehicle exports during the period. The remaining slots went to the Philippines (40,005 units), Thailand (22,841) and the United Arab Emirates (22,406).

The data shows a clear regional split in powertrain mix. In Brazil, Australia and Thailand, BEV exports dominated, with Thailand's shipments being almost entirely electric. In contrast, the UK, Belgium, the Philippines and the UAE were led by PHEV exports, with the UAE's PHEV volume reaching 21,271 units, the vast majority of its total. Slovenia was nearly balanced between the two powertrains, with 11,941 BEVs and 11,927 PHEVs.

Diversified product strategy across markets

The differing powertrain structures suggest BYD is tailoring its product mix to local demand conditions rather than relying on a single technology. The company's export footprint now spans Latin America, Europe, Southeast Asia and Oceania, according to Gasgoo's export database, with no single region dominating the overall picture.

Gasgoo Auto Research Institute compiled the figures from its export tracking database, and D1EV republished the ranking. The data covers only passenger vehicles and does not include commercial vehicles or other BYD product lines.
