BMW has officially unveiled the all-new 3 Series, codenamed G50, on September 30, according to Chinese automotive outlet 车质网 (Chezhiwang). The new model, which will be sold globally including in China, marks a significant design and technology shift for the brand's core sedan lineup.
Neue Klasse design language
The G50 3 Series adopts BMW's Neue Klasse design language, closely matching the styling of the new BMW i3. The front end features a longer hood to accommodate the engine layout, a physical grille, and active air intakes in the lower bumper. Buyers can opt for yellow M headlights, and the car is offered in a range of colors including a dedicated M Le Castellet Blue paint finish.
On the side, the new 3 Series features flush door handles and 19-inch or 20-inch wheels depending on trim. The M350 xDrive variant adds blacked-out front and rear bumpers, a rear spoiler, M-specific exterior mirrors, and blue brake calipers for a more aggressive look.
Inside, the cabin mirrors the new BMW i3, with a 17.9-inch central touchscreen angled toward the driver. The display runs an AI assistant and supports TiVo video apps. The multifunction steering wheel is shared with the i3, and the car comes with a panoramic head-up display and 3D HUD. Optional features include rear seat heating and a Harman Kardon sound system.
Powertrain options
The 330 model is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 259 hp (193 kW), paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It is available in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
The range-topping M350 xDrive uses a B58 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system, delivering 443 hp (330 kW) and 580 Nm of torque. It comes exclusively with all-wheel drive at launch, paired with the same 8-speed automatic gearbox. The M350 xDrive sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. BMW plans to unlock a rear-wheel drive mode via an over-the-air (OTA) update in 2027.
Initially, BMW will offer three variants: 330, 330 xDrive, and M350 xDrive. A Touring (wagon) version and a full M3 are expected to follow. The new 3 Series will be a key competitor in the premium midsize sedan segment, where it will face rivals from Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and increasingly, Chinese electric brands such as Nio and Xpeng in its home market.
