BMW Neue Klasse M concept debuts in China with quad-motor 800V drivetrain

BMW unveiled its Neue Klasse M concept car in China for the first time, showcasing a quad-motor electric drivetrain on an 800-volt platform with racing-inspired design cues.

BMW has brought its Neue Klasse M concept car to China for the first time, giving local enthusiasts a look at the brand's electric performance future. The unveiling took place at the 2026 BMW M Carnival event, according to Chinese outlet First Electric (D1EV).

Racing-inspired design and cockpit

The concept car adopts a track-focused design language, featuring wide wheel arches, sharp shoulder lines, and a vented hood. M-specific aerodynamic mirrors, a floating rear diffuser, and a ducktail spoiler work together to manage airflow and increase downforce. The signature yellow lighting elements draw from motorsport aesthetics, giving the car a distinctive visual identity.

Inside, the cabin is oriented toward competition. Four new one-piece racing bucket seats are upholstered in Bathurst Blue and Wild Berry Red Merino leather, and come with five-point harnesses. The steering wheel, door panels, and roll cage areas are covered in black suede, reinforcing the track-focused atmosphere.

Quad-motor powertrain on 800V architecture

The core highlight is BMW M's eDrive high-performance electric system. The car uses a four-motor, four-wheel independent drive layout, with the M Dynamic Performance Control system and the dedicated "Heart of Joy" control unit managing drive and braking forces on each wheel. This setup aims to improve traction limits, throttle response, and energy recovery efficiency.

The concept rides on an 800-volt high-voltage platform and is equipped with performance-tuned sixth-generation cylindrical battery cells. The battery structure not only supports sustained power output and fast charging but also serves as a structural component, enhancing overall body rigidity.

BMW officials said that even as the M division goes fully electric, its pursuit of the "ultimate driving machine" remains unchanged, and it will continue to transfer racing technology to production vehicles. The concept car is a preview of BMW's electric performance direction, though no production timeline or pricing has been announced.
