Beijing Hyundai has officially launched the Ioniq V, the first model under its premium electric Ioniq brand in China. The mid-size battery-electric coupe sedan is priced between 109,900 and 139,900 yuan (about $15,500 to $19,700), with a limited-time promotional price of 99,900 to 131,900 yuan (about $14,100 to $18,600). The car targets young consumers, offering a spacious cabin, advanced smart features, and a striking design that has earned it the nickname "Little Lamborghini of the north" among netizens, according to NetEase Auto.
The Ioniq V features a sleek, low-slung silhouette with a one-piece curved design that flows from the front to the rear. It includes frameless doors, semi-hidden door handles, and aerodynamic wheels. Buyers can choose from eight exterior colors, including Cyber Gold, Dimension Purple, Magnetic Gray, Photon White, and Night Blade Black.
Spacious interior and advanced tech
Measuring 4,900 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,470 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm, the Ioniq V offers a claimed 86% interior space efficiency. The cabin features a 27-inch ultra-thin 4K display and a head-up display, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip. It integrates dual AI large models from Baidu and Doubao, supporting voice commands from all four seating positions.
The high-end driver assistance and long-range versions come equipped with an L2+ level system developed with Momenta. This uses a vision-based setup with seven cameras, one millimeter-wave radar, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. It supports highway navigation, city memory navigation, lane centering, automatic lane changes, and automatic ramp entry and exit. The system also offers full-scene automatic parking and memory parking, with algorithms tuned for Chinese traffic conditions, including mixed pedestrian-vehicle flow and unprotected intersections. Over-the-air updates will allow future improvements.
Battery and range
The Ioniq V is powered by a custom lithium iron phosphate battery from CATL. Depending on the version, the CLTC range spans 520 to 650 km. In real-world terms, expect a WLTP range of roughly 440 to 550 km (est.), as CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic.
With a starting price under 130,000 yuan (about $18,300) for versions with the full suite of tech, the Ioniq V aims to shake up the mainstream electric sedan segment. Its combination of coupe styling, generous space, and comprehensive smart features could make it a strong contender in China's competitive home EV market.
