Zeekr's flagship hybrid SUV, the 8X, has claimed the top spot in cumulative sales for hybrid SUVs priced between 300,000 and 500,000 yuan (about $42,300-$70,400) in China, just under six months after its market debut. The sales data, compiled by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) from wholesale figures covering April 1 to September 30, 2026, was announced by Zeekr on October 14, according to Chinese automotive outlet Gasgoo.
Launch momentum and sales performance
The 8X went on sale on April 17, 2026, in three trims: Max, Ultra, and Ultra+. The entry price after launch-period discounts starts at 329,800 yuan (about $46,400), a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives. Zeekr positions the 8X as the world's fastest-accelerating hybrid SUV, featuring a new cockpit-and-chassis integrated super-intelligent system and a focus on handling and performance.
The model's early sales were strong: within 29 minutes of opening orders, it received over 10,000 pre-orders, and in the first 13 days, deliveries reached nearly 3,500 units. Notably, 95.6% of these orders were for the higher-spec Ultra and above variants. In its first full month of delivery, the 8X sold 6,103 units, already taking the monthly sales crown in its segment. Now, with cumulative sales leadership over the April-September period, Zeekr says the 8X has become both a sales and reputation leader in the high-value SUV market.
Zeekr's broader premium push appears to be paying off. In the first half of 2026, the brand delivered 178,000 vehicles, with flagship models like the 8X serving as key drivers for brand elevation and value growth, according to the company.
Competitive landscape
The 300,000-500,000 yuan hybrid SUV segment is fiercely contested, with rivals including Li Auto's L-series and various plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and range-extender (EREV) models from other Chinese brands. Zeekr says the 8X's combination of hybrid technology, intelligent cockpit, and driving dynamics gives it a distinct edge. As production capacity ramps up and word-of-mouth spreads, the model's performance will be closely watched.
The CPCA data, which uses transaction prices as the basis for the price brackets, underscores the 8X's strong start. Zeekr, a subsidiary of Geely, has been expanding its lineup beyond pure battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) to include hybrids, a strategy that aligns with broader market trends in China where PHEVs and EREVs are gaining share.
