Xpeng has opened presale for the MONA L05, the first large five-seat SUV in its MONA series, with a starting guide price of 169,800 yuan (about $23,900) before taxes and incentives, according to the Chinese outlet 电动邦 (DianDongBang). The model, available in both battery-electric (BEV) and range-extender (EREV) versions, is scheduled for official launch on October 29.
Design and interior
The MONA L05 is designed for young buyers, featuring a sleek exterior developed by former Ferrari design chief Juanma Lopez and a team of post-2000s designers. The vehicle adopts the MONA family's 'VitalFlow' design language, with a 0.6 length-to-wheelbase ratio and a low, wide body. It includes a star-ship headlight with 190 LED units and a taillight with over 300 ultra-red LEDs. Six exterior colors and two interior themes are offered.
Inside, the cabin boasts over 74% soft-touch surface coverage, a 17.3-inch 3K central display, a 17.3-inch sun-protection entertainment screen for rear passengers, a 20-speaker AI audio system, and a 256-color ambient light strip exceeding 4.6 meters. The front seats offer AI-powered active adjustment, a 14-point massage zero-gravity passenger seat, and rear seats with 11-degree electric recline.
Space and practicality
The L05 achieves an 87% interior space efficiency, providing a 'mobile flat floor' layout. Front headroom is 1030mm, rear headroom 1010mm, and rear legroom 1063mm. Cargo capacity totals 804 liters including a 102-liter front trunk, expanding to 1913 liters with rear seats folded. The vehicle offers 41 storage compartments and 22 expansion interfaces, with a roof rack capacity of 75kg.
For convenience, front seats can fold flat to create a rest area, and the rear seats recline for a lounge mode. The car also includes a hidden electric air vent, a dual-satellite-button steering wheel, and a large beauty mirror.
Intelligent driving and safety
Two versions are offered: Max with one Turing AI chip (750 TOPS) and Ultra SE with two chips (1500 TOPS). Both support Xpeng's second-generation VLA models, enabling advanced driver assistance features. The system can predict scenarios six seconds ahead and has improved response speed by 300%, with a 20-fold increase in safety capabilities. The cabin features a Master Agent AI assistant with multimodal input.
Safety is a priority, with the vehicle developed for global standards across 65 countries and regions, undergoing over 5 million kilometers of testing. It meets China, European, and Australian five-star safety standards, and includes 17 standard active safety features. The LFP battery pack is designed to prevent fire or explosion for 24 hours after a 55°C thermal runaway, with a four-layer protective armor and 2000J impact resistance.
Powertrain and range
The BEV version offers a CLTC range of up to 635km (WLTP est. 508-540km), with energy consumption as low as 12.2kWh/100km and a 0-100km/h time of 6.8 seconds. It supports 3C fast charging, reaching 10-80% in 19.1 minutes. The EREV version provides a CLTC electric-only range of 310km (WLTP est. 248-264km) and a combined range of 1310km, with fuel consumption of 2.3L/100km in combined mode and 5.26L/100km when the battery is depleted. It can charge from 10-80% in 14.7 minutes and is compatible with various fuel grades globally.
The MONA series has delivered over 350,000 units in two years, with the MONA M03 leading the 100,000-200,000 yuan BEV sedan segment for 24 consecutive months. The L05 aims to fill a gap for young buyers seeking a stylish, intelligent large SUV.
