Xpeng MONA L03 review: 15万级 smart SUV's strengths and weaknesses laid bare

Autohome's detailed review of the Xpeng MONA L03, a 150,000-yuan-class smart SUV, highlights its standout design, tech-rich cabin, and advanced assisted driving, while noting its 400V architecture and modest range as compromises.

Xpeng's MONA L03, pitched as the first smart and stylish SUV for young buyers, has been put under the microscope by Chinese automotive outlet Autohome. The review offers a balanced look at what the model gets right and where it cuts corners, in a segment where value is paramount.

Design and cabin tech

The MONA L03 carries over the MONA family design language, featuring a low-slung, wide-body fastback stance. Autohome highlights details like frameless doors, flush side windows, semi-hidden door handles, and a full-width rear light bar with 288 ultra-red LEDs. The claimed drag coefficient is a slippery Cd 0.228, and six paint options are available.

Inside, the focus is on tech and comfort. A 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen is paired with a 26.8-inch head-up display that can project navigation and assisted-driving status. Front seats offer heating, ventilation, power lumbar support, and a 14-point massage function, with the passenger seat featuring a zero-gravity recline. The cabin also includes 256-color ambient lighting and a 50W wireless phone charger.

Practicality is addressed with 40 storage compartments, a 539-litre boot (expandable to 1,640 litres), and 23 accessory mounting points.

Assisted driving and powertrain

The L03 can activate what Xpeng calls NGP (Navigation Guided Pilot) in urban areas, campuses, and parking garages even without a set destination. This 'roam' mode keeps the car in its lane while navigating around slower or stationary obstacles. The system is powered by a second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model with up to 1,500 TOPS of computing power, supporting features like point-to-point navigation 2.0.

However, Autohome notes a key compromise: the MONA L03 uses a 400V electrical architecture with 3C fast charging, at a time when 800V systems are starting to appear in the same price bracket. The entry-level battery is a 56kWh unit, which the outlet says offers a range of 525 kilometres on the CLTC cycle (roughly 420-445km WLTP est.). This is described as 'middling' for the class.

The review concludes that the MONA L03's strengths are clear, but it's not perfect. Autohome advises buyers to consider their own usage scenarios—particularly whether they have home charging—before committing, as the 400V system and range may be limiting for those who frequently rely on public fast chargers.
