Xpeng launches G9L large five-seat SUV from 231,800 yuan, adds EREV option

Xpeng launched the G9L, a large five-seat SUV, on September 17 with prices from 231,800 yuan (about $32,600) during a limited-time offer. The model is available as a BEV or EREV and features 800V fast charging, AI-powered seats, and a one-touch bed mode.

Xpeng unveiled the G9L, a large five-seat SUV, on September 17 in China, priced between 241,800 and 319,800 yuan (about $34,100-$45,000) as the official guide price. A limited-time offer cuts 10,000 yuan (about $1,400) off for orders placed before November 15, bringing the effective range to 231,800-309,800 yuan (about $32,600-$43,600). According to NetEase Auto, the G9L is offered in both battery-electric (BEV) and range-extender (EREV) versions, with all variants featuring 800V ultra-fast charging.

The G9L marks Xpeng's entry into the large five-seat SUV segment, complementing the six-seat GX to form the brand's "flagship twin" lineup. The model will also be sold overseas, with a debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 12, and will be manufactured at Xpeng's Guangzhou plant in China and a facility in Graz, Austria.

Powertrain and range

The EREV version pairs a 63.3 kWh battery with a 60-liter fuel tank, delivering a CLTC pure-electric range of 435 km (about 270 miles) and a combined range of 1,602 km (about 995 miles). The BEV version offers a maximum CLTC range of 755 km (about 469 miles). Note that CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP, so real-world ranges will be lower (estimated WLTP: around 600 km for the BEV).

All versions come with dual-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering as standard. The G9L also features a drag coefficient of 0.238 Cd, achieved through 20 body optimizations that add an estimated 70 km (about 43 miles) of extra highway range. The car rides on 22-inch staggered tires (265 mm front, 285 mm rear) for improved handling and stability.

Interior and technology

The cabin introduces several world-first features, including an AI-powered zero-gravity seat system with 85 sensors and 29 air bladders in the driver's seat, and 91 sensors and 27 bladders in the passenger seat. The seats can identify body shape and pressure distribution within one second and adjust automatically. The rear seats include a four-motor executive center console with a folding table that stays level regardless of seat angle, plus a 50W wireless charger, a 21.4-inch 3K rear ceiling screen, and a 220V power outlet.

A one-touch bed mode folds the front seats flat to create a 1,865 mm by 1,505 mm double bed without removing headrests. The trunk has a regular volume of 1,152 liters, expandable with a 230-liter underfloor storage area. The G9L also comes with a 12.5-liter dual-zone refrigerator, a 33-speaker audio system, and a 270-degree electric sunshade.

On the technology front, the G9L is equipped with three Turing AI chips and one 8295P automotive chip, delivering 2,250 TOPS of computing power—the highest in Xpeng's lineup. The vehicle runs Xpeng's second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) system, which will receive a major upgrade to version 6.3.0, boosting the on-device model parameters by 3.5 times and improving perception speed by 300%. The system also integrates VLA with VLM (Vision-Language Model) for features like autonomous parking and voice-controlled maneuvers.

The G9L is available in four trims: Max, Ultra SE, Ultra, and Ultra Flagship, with configurations ranging from a 702 km BEV two-wheel drive to a 755 km BEV four-wheel drive and the 1,602 km EREV four-wheel drive. Xpeng is offering up to 63,000 yuan (about $8,900) in configuration benefits for new buyers and up to 82,000 yuan (about $11,500) for existing customers who repurchase. The G9L is positioned as a flagship product in the 300,000 yuan (about $42,300) segment, aiming to combine luxury comfort with advanced technology at a competitive price.
