Xiaomi's latest product wave is drawing crowds. Wang Xiaoyan, senior vice president of Xiaomi Group and president of its China region, said on Thursday that some retail stores saw peak-hour foot traffic surge 400% following the September 7 launch of the 18 Fold foldable phone and the Pengcheng SUV lineup, according to IThome.
Screenshots shared by Wang show one store experiencing a sharp increase in visitors from 1 p.m. onward, with traffic climbing more than 400% between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. The store saw elevated footfall throughout its opening hours, the report said.
Foldable phone sells about 36,000 units on day one
The 18 Fold, which went on sale September 10 with a starting price of 10,999 yuan (about $1,549), sold roughly 36,000 units on its first day, according to tech blogger @RD观测, who tracks domestic phone market share. The device features a 5.38-inch outer display and a 7.58-inch inner display, both using an approximately √2:1 paper-like aspect ratio, with LTPO refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz.

The phone debuts Xiaomi's Xuanjie O3 AI flagship system-on-chip, which uses a ten-core all-big-core CPU design and a 16-core G2-Ultra NX GPU. It is also among the first to use CXMT LPDDR6 memory. A 6,000mAh Jinshajiang battery supports 67W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.
Pengcheng SUV line opens with strong order intake
The Pengcheng SUV series, unveiled on the evening of September 7, surpassed 10,000 lock-in orders within four minutes. The lineup includes four models: the Pengcheng N70 Pro at 209,900 yuan (about $29,563), the N70 Max at 239,900 yuan (about $33,789), the N90 Max at 269,900 yuan (about $38,014), and the N90 Max Explorer Edition at 299,900 yuan (about $42,239). These are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.
Xiaomi has begun delivering the Pengcheng SUV, with CEO Lei Jun personally opening doors for the first batch of owners in the city of Pengcheng. The company also confirmed that a customer who accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake during a test drive has since placed a lock-in order.
The strong retail response underscores Xiaomi's push to extend its consumer electronics momentum into both foldable smartphones and electric vehicles, two categories where it faces entrenched rivals.
