Xiaomi has officially launched its new large seven-seat SUV, the Pengcheng N90 Max, with a starting price of 269,900 yuan (about $38,000) in China. The top trim sells for 299,900 yuan (about $42,200). The model is an EREV (range-extender electric vehicle), combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine used purely as a generator with dual electric motors. According to Autohome, customers who place orders before midnight on October 7 can claim launch-period benefits worth up to 81,000 yuan (about $11,400), including front rotating seats, Nappa leather, the Xiaomi HAD driver-assistance package, second-row dual zero-gravity seats, and wheel and paint vouchers.
Flexible interior and off-road capability
The Pengcheng N90 Max is built around flexibility. Inside, it offers a 2+2+3 seating layout with 11 different space configurations, thanks to front seats that can rotate 180 degrees. Standard features include an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 20-inch head-up display, a 16.1-inch central touchscreen running Xiaomi's HyperOS with a Qualcomm 8650 cockpit chip, a 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen, and a 25-speaker Xiaomi Xingxian audio system. A sliding centre console houses a 9-litre drawer-type compressor fridge and multiple expansion ports for accessories such as fragrance diffusers and Bluetooth speakers.
The car measures 5,285 mm long, 1,998 mm wide and 1,825 mm tall, with a 3,080 mm wheelbase. It has a drag coefficient of 0.255 and a minimum turning radius of 5.95 metres. Off-road features include a maximum wading depth of 750 mm, an active-opening front grille, and a claimed emergency floating capability. The body uses 2,200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel in 16 locations and includes 12 airbags and 39 anti-pinch structures.
An Exploration Edition adds a factory-installed electric pop-up roof that opens or closes in 26 seconds, raising the roof height to 2,872 mm. It has a five-seat layout with a reclining rear bench that can form a bed in 30 seconds, a 30-inch projector screen, a wooden-aluminium floor with underfloor heating, and a 11.5-inch soft-light mirror. Its CLTC pure-electric range is 462 km, with a combined CLTC range of 1,688 km.
Powertrain, range and rivals
The standard Pengcheng N90 uses a 112 kW (150 hp) 1.5-litre range-extender engine and dual motors producing 210 kW (282 hp) front and 100 kW (134 hp) rear. A 76 kWh battery pack delivers a CLTC pure-electric range of 464 km, and a 15-minute fast charge adds 285 km of range. Combined CLTC range is 1,705 km, with a WLTP-equivalent estimate of roughly 1,400-1,450 km (est.). The WLTC combined fuel consumption when the battery is depleted is 6.26 L/100 km. The suspension uses double wishbones at the front and H-arm multi-link at the rear, with five-level adjustable air springs and continuously variable damping.
Xiaomi positions the Pengcheng N90 Max against the BYD Datang, Xpeng GX and Onvo L90. Autohome notes the BYD and Xpeng models lean more toward business and family use, while the Onvo L90 focuses on family practicality with a 240-litre front trunk and a battery-rental price starting at 179,800 yuan (about $25,300). The Pengcheng N90 Max aims to stand out through its flexible interior and scenario-based design rather than a price war, according to Autohome. It is also Xiaomi's first model explicitly targeting buyers over 30 years old, the outlet added.
