Voyah, the premium electric-vehicle brand under Dongfeng, has expanded its flagship SUV lineup with the launch of the X8, a large five-seat model that the company dubs the "new king of five-seaters." According to Autohome, which conducted a first drive, the X8 is positioned as a more youthful and sporty alternative to the Voyah Dream, with prices ranging from 292,900 to 379,900 yuan (about $41,300 to $53,500) as Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.
The X8 measures 5,200 mm in length, 2,025 mm in width and 1,814 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,090 mm—about 3 cm shorter than the Dream but still among the longest in its class. Standard equipment includes 21-inch wheels (22-inch optional), four-door electric suction doors, and a DLP projection headlight system. Inside, the cabin features the latest HarmonyOS Smart Cockpit 5.2, with two 15.6-inch 2K displays, a 13-litre dual-door refrigerator in the second row, a 21.4-inch ceiling entertainment screen, and a zero-gravity seat with 32-point massage for the right rear passenger. A notable feature is a 60-second one-touch bed mode that folds the second row flat and inflates a mattress to create a 2.1-metre-long sleeping surface, ideal for camping and long breaks.
Two Powertrains, Long Range
The X8 is offered with both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery-electric (BEV) powertrains. The PHEV version combines a 1.5-litre turbo engine (110 kW, about 148 hp) with a single-speed DHT gearbox. The entry-level model delivers a combined system output of 475 kW (about 637 hp) and 910 N·m of torque, while mid- and high-spec variants produce 490 kW (about 657 hp) and 915 N·m. The base PHEV uses a 44.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, providing a CLTC electric-only range of 245 km and a combined range exceeding 1,300 km. Higher trims adopt an 800V architecture and 5C fast charging, with a 65 kWh ternary lithium battery boosting CLTC electric range to 370 km (roughly 296-315 km WLTP est.).
The new BEV version comes with either a 98 kWh or 120 kWh ternary lithium battery, offering CLTC ranges of 603 km and 727 km respectively (roughly 482-582 km WLTP est.). All BEV models support 5C ultra-fast charging, and the dual-motor setup delivers a combined 475 kW (about 637 hp).
Chassis and Driving Dynamics
The X8 rides on a double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, with a three-chamber air suspension and an EDC magic-carpet chassis—hardware that Autohome notes is otherwise exclusive to the Voyah Dream. The air suspension offers 105 mm of adjustable travel, five height settings, and four stiffness modes. During Autohome's test, the chassis demonstrated strong body control, with minimal roll in corners and effective damping over rough surfaces. In comfort mode, the suspension filters small bumps smoothly, while in sport mode it firms up for more road feel. The test also included a 80 km/h jump exercise, where the suspension quickly stabilised the body after landing, and a hill climb that the X8 cleared without scraping.
Steering agility is aided by a rear-wheel steering system with ±16 degrees of articulation, reducing the turning radius to 5.4 metres. A crab-walk mode allows the wheels to move diagonally, easing manoeuvring in tight spaces. Autohome notes that drivers unfamiliar with rear-wheel steering may need a brief adjustment period when reversing.
The X8's boot capacity is 1,148 litres in normal configuration, expanding to 2,361 litres with the second row folded. With its combination of space, dual powertrains, and advanced chassis tech, the X8 aims to cover a wide range of use cases, from family commuting to outdoor adventures.
