Volkswagen's Chinese joint venture Volkswagen Anhui has launched the ID. UNYX 08, a large five-seat electric SUV that starts at 219,900 yuan (about $31,000) as a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives. The model, built on a dedicated BEV (battery-electric) platform, targets families seeking a blend of German engineering and spacious comfort, according to NetEase Auto.
Design and dimensions
The ID. UNYX 08 measures 5,000mm long, 1,956mm wide and 1,688mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,030mm. Its exterior adopts a closed front face with a full-width LED light bar and a gold Volkswagen logo, a signature of the brand's "gold standard" design language. The side profile features a short front overhang and long rear overhang, with blacked-out B and C pillars creating a floating roof effect. All versions come with semi-hidden electric door handles, while the higher-spec Hunter trim adds 21-inch sport wheels and a blacked-out body kit.
Inside, the cabin uses a wraparound design with a floating central touchscreen powered by dual high-compute chips, supporting multi-zone voice control and over-the-air updates. Physical buttons remain for key functions, and the flat rear floor plus long wheelbase provides generous legroom for three rear passengers. The electric tailgate opens to a large cargo area that expands to a flat load floor when the rear seats are folded.
Powertrain and chassis
Two powertrain options are offered. The single-motor rear-wheel-drive version produces 230kW (308hp) and 465Nm of torque, tuned for efficiency and daily commuting. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant delivers a combined 370kW (496hp) and 695Nm, prioritising performance. The source quotes a maximum range of 730km for the long-range version, measured under China's CLTC cycle; a WLTP estimate would be roughly 15-20% lower, in the region of 580-620km (est.).
Standard chassis equipment includes front double-wishbone and rear five-link aluminium suspension, with Brembo brakes. The top trim adds dual-chamber air suspension and adaptive damping control. The ID. UNYX 08 is positioned as a flagship for Volkswagen Anhui, combining German build quality with what the company describes as Eastern symmetrical aesthetics, aiming to compete in China's crowded large electric SUV segment.
