Vector launches CANoe Emulation Package EV for realistic charging station testing

Vector Informatik's new CANoe Emulation Package EV lets engineers simulate real charging infrastructure in the lab, cutting development time and costs while improving interoperability testing for EVs.

Vector Informatik has introduced the CANoe Emulation Package EV, a new solution designed to simulate real-world charging infrastructure during electric vehicle (EV) charging tests. The package, announced by the German engineering firm, uses recorded charging process data to reproduce the behavior of charging stations in a laboratory environment, according to a report by China's First Electric Vehicle Network (D1EV).

The tool aims to help development and testing teams shorten development cycles, reduce costs, and improve the quality of vehicle interoperability testing. By recreating the behavior of charging stations with high fidelity, engineers can validate their EV charging systems without needing physical access to a wide range of hardware.

How it works

The CANoe Emulation Package EV is part of Vector's CANoe software suite, widely used in automotive electronics development. The new package leverages recorded data from actual charging sessions to mimic the responses of different charging stations, including variations in communication protocols and power delivery. This allows testers to run repeatable, realistic scenarios in the lab, covering edge cases that might be difficult or expensive to reproduce with physical equipment.

For automakers and suppliers, this means earlier detection of interoperability issues, which can be critical as charging standards evolve and new models enter the market. The tool also supports the development of advanced charging features, such as plug-and-charge and smart charging, by providing a controlled environment for testing.

Industry context

The launch comes as the EV industry increasingly focuses on charging reliability and user experience. In China, where charging infrastructure is expanding rapidly, interoperability testing is a key concern for both domestic and foreign automakers. The ability to simulate charging stations in software could help streamline certification and reduce the need for extensive field testing.

Vector's move reflects a broader trend of digitalization in vehicle testing, where software-based simulation is complementing physical testing to accelerate development. The CANoe Emulation Package EV is expected to be particularly useful for teams working on EVs destined for markets with diverse charging standards, such as China, Europe, and North America.

According to D1EV, the tool is now available to customers, though pricing and specific system requirements were not disclosed in the initial announcement.
