French automotive supplier Valeo and BlackBerry's QNX division have announced a strategic partnership to develop a next-generation intelligent front-view camera platform, which has already secured orders from multiple automakers in China. The announcement was made at the Canada Pavilion during the ninth China International Import Expo in Shanghai on November 6, according to Gasgoo (盖世汽车).
The platform integrates QNX OS for Safety, a functional-safety-certified operating system, with Valeo's hardware and full software stack for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). It supports detection of vehicles, pedestrians, road markings, and traffic signs. The platform is ready for mass production and is expected to go into production by 2026.
Technical architecture and flexibility
By deploying QNX OS for Safety on a system-on-chip (SoC), the platform balances high-performance AI processing with system determinism, functional safety, and real-time reliability. It can be flexibly configured to meet the needs of different vehicle models, reducing development complexity and cost for automakers, and accelerating the deployment of ADAS features.
Dong Yuanwen, chief representative of QNX in Greater China, said automakers need ADAS platforms that combine safety, performance, and cost-effectiveness, and the collaboration will provide technical support for the mass production of next-generation ADAS functions. Zhou Song, president of Valeo China, noted that different automakers have different paths to ADAS development, and the new platform can be tailored to each project's requirements.
The partnership extends a long-standing relationship between the two companies. QNX technology has previously been applied in multiple Valeo solutions supporting global vehicle programs. According to Mary Ng, Canada's minister of international trade, QNX software is currently used in more than 275 million vehicles worldwide.
