Smart #2 makes global debut in Paris, limited gold edition priced at 112,999 yuan

Smart unveiled the all-electric #2 at the Paris Motor Show, with a limited 'Gold Edition' for China priced at 112,999 yuan (about $15,900), and a Premium version launching in November.

Smart took the wraps off its new all-electric #2 at the Paris Motor Show on October 12, marking the return of the brand's iconic two-seater in the electric era. The model, designed by Mercedes-Benz's global design team and built on the ECA electric compact architecture, will be offered in China in two trims: a limited 'Gold Edition' (鎏金高定版) priced at 112,999 yuan (about $15,900, Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives) and a Premium version arriving in early November, according to NetEase Auto.

Compact design, big personality

The #2 retains Smart's classic proportions with wheels pushed to the corners, maximizing interior space in a body just 2,764 mm long (Gold Edition) or 2,751 mm (Premium). The interior features a bench seat and a wave-patterned surround cockpit, with a two-piece tailgate that can double as a loading platform or seat with a 120 kg load capacity.

The Gold Edition, limited to 999 units in China and 999 in Europe, adds 11 exclusive touches including a matte cloud-white paint, a contrasting gold roof, 16-inch gold wheels, and a numbered commemorative plaque. Both trims come with a panoramic glass roof, a 12.8-inch touchscreen, an 8.8-inch instrument display, 256-color ambient lighting, heated seats and steering wheel, and a 7-speaker Sennheiser audio system.

Powertrain and range

Power comes from a highly integrated electric drive unit producing 60 kW (about 80 hp), with a 35.8 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate battery pack. The CLTC range is rated at up to 410 km (about 255 miles; WLTP est. 328-349 km), and fast charging can take the battery from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability allows the car to power external devices.

The #2 boasts a tight 3.35-meter turning radius for city maneuverability, a rear five-link independent suspension, and a top speed of 140 km/h (87 mph). A reinforced safety body structure, dubbed Tridion Cell Evo, underpins the cabin, and the car offers driver assistance features including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and parking assistance.

Following the Paris debut, the #2 will go on sale in China and Europe, with the Gold Edition already open for orders and deliveries expected within the year.
