OpenAI upgrades ChatGPT Sites with faster deploys, collaboration and custom domains

OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT Sites with a new 'Build Together' collaboration mode, faster deployment, database inspection and custom domain support, making it easier for teams to build and share web apps.

OpenAI has rolled out a significant update to ChatGPT Sites, its tool for building websites and web applications from natural-language prompts. The headline addition is a new collaboration feature called "Build Together," which lets multiple users work on the same project simultaneously, according to IThome.

Previously, ChatGPT Sites was largely a single-user affair: one person created a project and was the only one who could edit and publish it. With the update, users can send collaboration invitations to others, and invited members can quickly edit, save and publish site content. This opens the door for teams to co-develop web apps without the back-and-forth of sharing screenshots or suggestions.

Faster deploys and more control

OpenAI also claims that deployment times have been cut roughly in half, from entering a prompt to having the site live. For developers who iterate frequently, tweaking prompts and testing changes, this shorter cycle can meaningfully accelerate the build-and-verify loop.

The update also adds support for viewing the database connected to a site, so users can check what data is actually stored without opening a separate database tool. And for those who want a more polished presence, custom domains can now be bound to a site, replacing the generic ChatGPT-provided URL when sharing with clients, colleagues or friends.

Privacy controls were tightened as well: projects can be set to fully private, with access restricted to designated individuals. This is useful for teams that want to run internal beta tests before a public launch, as the example in the IThome report illustrates: a developer creates a site for an event, shares it with a colleague, and that colleague can directly edit the project and inspect the underlying data without constant back-and-forth.

These enhancements come as OpenAI continues to expand ChatGPT's utility beyond chat, positioning it as a low-code platform for rapid web prototyping. For users in China's tech community, where ChatGPT access may require workarounds, the update still signals the direction of AI-assisted development tools globally.
