Mercedes-Benz E-Class EV Spied with Sharper Design, 800V Platform

New spy photos show Mercedes-Benz's upcoming E-Class EV with a sleeker sedan silhouette, 800V architecture, and up to 330 kW fast charging, positioning it as the EQE successor.

Fresh spy shots of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class electric sedan have surfaced in China, revealing a more angular design and confirming the adoption of an 800V electrical architecture. According to Chinese outlet Autohome, the prototype shows reduced camouflage, with the production headlights fully exposed and a cleaner overall body shape compared to earlier test mules.

Design and Platform

The new E-Class EV, expected to succeed the current EQE, will ride on Mercedes' dedicated MB.EA electric platform. The front end features a revised design with twin star-shaped daytime running lights inside the headlamp clusters, a signature element for the brand's electric lineup. A large illuminated grille is also anticipated, consistent with recent Mercedes EV styling cues.

Side profiles appear longer and more taut than the rounded EQE, giving the sedan a more conventional, executive look. At the rear, the taillights adopt a straight LED strip design, forgoing the star-shaped motifs seen on some current models for a cleaner aesthetic.

Powertrain and Charging

Underpinning the new model is the MB.EA architecture, which supports an 800V electrical system. Peak charging power is expected to reach 330 kW, significantly improving charging speeds over the current EQE. If Mercedes offers an E400 variant, it could use a dual-motor setup similar to the C400 4Matic, producing around 482 hp (360 kW) and accelerating from 0-100 km/h in approximately 4 seconds. Official powertrain details have not yet been released.

Inside, the cabin is likely to feature a digital cockpit with a full digital instrument cluster, following the brand's latest design language. Whether the passenger-side entertainment screen seen on some Mercedes models will be offered as an option remains unconfirmed.

The new E-Class EV is positioned to compete with the BMW i5 and Audi A6 e-tron when it launches. Autohome notes that the shift to a more traditional sedan body and the addition of 800V fast charging are key differentiators aimed at the premium electric sedan segment.
