Mengshi, the off-road brand under Dongfeng, has revealed the interior of its X700, the first model from its X series co-developed with Huawei's Qiankun (HarmonyOS) division. The mid-to-large five-seat SUV targets families seeking a blend of off-road capability and everyday comfort, with pre-sales scheduled to begin on September 28, according to NetEase Auto.
Huawei-powered cockpit and driver assistance
The X700 debuts the HarmonySpace 6 cockpit, featuring dual 15.6-inch displays with 2.5K resolution and 1,000-nit brightness. It also introduces Xiaoyi, an AI assistant that enables natural-language control across navigation, vehicle functions, and connectivity, eliminating the need for sequential commands. The HUAWEI XHUD projects a 74-inch augmented-reality display onto the windshield, overlaying navigation cues on the road ahead.
Audio comes from a 21-speaker HUAWEI SOUND system with 7.1.4-channel surround sound. For driver assistance, the X700 is equipped with Huawei's ADS 5 system, which includes a roof-mounted 896-line LiDAR, highway and city NOA (navigation on autopilot), and memory parking. A unique off-road NCA (navigation cruise assist) mode helps detect low obstacles in dusty or backlit conditions. The vehicle also features Huawei's XMC digital chassis engine for real-time suspension adjustments.
Powertrain and off-road specs
The X700 offers two powertrain options: a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and a range-extender (EREV). The PHEV pairs a 1.5T engine producing 113 kW (151 hp) with a 51.46 kWh or 68.10 kWh battery, offering CLTC electric-only ranges of 228 km and 285 km, respectively. The EREV uses a 1.5T engine rated at 95 kW (127 hp) with a 51.46 kWh battery, providing 228 km or 244 km of CLTC range depending on configuration. For context, CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP; estimated WLTP ranges would be roughly 183-228 km.
Built on a unibody platform with a 150 mm-travel dual-chamber air suspension, the X700 achieves a maximum ground clearance of 328.8 mm, approach and departure angles of 37.5 and 38.3 degrees, and a wading depth of 800 mm. The cabin features dual zero-gravity front seats that recline to 127 degrees, and a fully flat second-row space with 2.77 cubic meters of cargo volume, aided by a 2050 mm-long flat bed and 947 mm of interior height. The 850-liter trunk can hold up to ten 20-inch suitcases, and there are 56 storage compartments with 26 mounting points for accessories.
The exterior retains Mengshi's boxy, rugged styling with softer edges, a 'lion's roar' grille, and a full-width light bar. Six color options are available, named after Chinese landscapes. The X700 measures 5,035 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,910 mm tall, with a 2,920 mm wheelbase.
Pricing has not been announced, but the X700 is expected to compete in the premium off-road SUV segment. With Huawei's technology stack and Mengshi's off-road heritage, the model aims to bridge the gap between family SUVs and hardcore off-roaders.
