Kojima Meets Xbox CEO as Microsoft Takes Over Sony's Dropped 'Physint'

Hideo Kojima met Xbox CEO Asha Sharma in Tokyo, discussing projects 'OD' and 'Physint' after Sony ended its partnership on the latter. Microsoft has expanded its collaboration with Kojima Productions to include 'Physint'.

Game designer Hideo Kojima met with Microsoft's Xbox CEO Asha Sharma in Tokyo on September 14, discussing their collaborative projects OD and Physint. Photos posted on social media platform X show Sharma visiting Kojima Productions' studio, wearing an Xbox-branded shirt alongside Kojima, and signing the company's signature board.

Sharma said she spent the day with Kojima and his team, talking about the two projects and future plans, according to IThome.

Shift from Sony to Microsoft

The meeting comes after Sony's PlayStation division announced this week that it had decided to stop collaborating with Kojima Productions on Physint, a decision described as difficult after careful consideration. Microsoft subsequently confirmed that its partnership with Kojima Productions would extend to include Physint.

Kojima officially unveiled Physint in September 2025, calling it the culmination of his life's work and a new stage in tactical espionage action. Reports suggest the split with Sony was related to budget, profitability prospects, and exclusivity arrangements.

Microsoft's expanded involvement with Kojima Productions strengthens its portfolio of exclusive titles, especially as it prepares to showcase games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Minecraft Dungeons 2 at the 2026 Tokyo Game Show.

For gamers, the shift means Physint will likely be an Xbox console exclusive, a significant change from its earlier PlayStation-aligned development. Kojima's reputation for cinematic, story-driven experiences makes the project one to watch.
