Huawei WATCH FIT 5 series gets HarmonyOS 7 update with new watch faces and health features

Huawei rolls out HarmonyOS 7 to the WATCH FIT 5 series, adding a refreshed interface, new emotional-health themes, a customizable Modular watch face, and one-tap activation for health monitoring features.

Huawei has begun rolling out HarmonyOS 7 to its WATCH FIT 5 series, bringing a redesigned interface, new emotional-health themes, and a modular watch face that lets users mix widgets for water intake, pet weather, and even a panda tapping a wooden fish. The update, reported by IThome (IThome), arrives about a year after the smartwatch line launched.

Interface and watch faces

The new system introduces what Huawei calls an "immersive light-sensing" design, with soft white edge lighting that makes watch faces and the multitasking list appear more translucent and airy. Apps like the workout log and calculator gain layered backgrounds for a deeper, more premium look.

The headline addition is the "Modular" watch face, which supports free combination of widgets such as water reminders, pet weather, and the panda tapping a wooden fish. Users can choose from three layouts and over a dozen theme colors, and tapping the pet triggers animations. The watch face can also display key metrics like step count, heart rate, active calories, and sleep duration at a glance.

Health features get easier to access

HarmonyOS 7 also adds two new emotional-health themes: "Fluffy" and "Stardust," accessible via the emotional-health app's settings. More practically, the update enables one-tap activation of pulse-wave arrhythmia analysis, ECG (supported on the WATCH FIT 5 Pro), and sleep apnea detection directly from the watch, removing the need to switch to the Huawei Health app to enable these functions. Results are shown on the watch itself, streamlining health management.

Huawei says the update is available now. Users with Huawei phones or tablets can apply through the My Huawei or Services app under "Upgrade & Try," while users of other brands can sign up via the My Huawei WeChat mini-program.

This update is part of Huawei's broader push to keep its wearables competitive with smartwatches from Apple and Samsung, focusing on health tracking and customization as key differentiators.
