Haval, the SUV-focused brand under Great Wall Motor, has expanded its H6 lineup with a new, larger variant called the H6L. According to a detailed first-hand review published by Chinese automotive outlet Autohome (Autohome), the H6L is positioned as a spacious five-seat family SUV with a starting price of just over 100,000 yuan (about $14,100), a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives.
The H6L measures 4,800 mm long, 1,895 mm wide and 1,730 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,810 mm. That makes it 147 mm longer and 72 mm longer in wheelbase than the standard H6. The exterior adopts what Haval calls a “rhythmic natural aesthetics” design language, featuring a full-width LED light bar at the front, an X-shaped bumper, and a glowing Haval letter logo that lights up at night. At the rear, the H6L swaps the H6's full-width tail light for a “lava eruption” style unit that echoes the front's X motif. The body achieves a drag coefficient of Cd 0.366, helped by low-resistance materials and design.
Inside: Coffee OS 3 and a focus on practicality
Inside, the H6L comes with Haval's Coffee OS 3 smart cockpit, pairing a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.6-inch central touchscreen. A 10-inch head-up display with automatic height adjustment keeps key driving information in the driver's line of sight. The infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay, HUAWEI HiCar, ICCOA and Honor's car connectivity, allowing seamless handover of phone content when the car starts. Voice control responds well to everyday commands, though the reviewer noted it struggles with overly complex, multi-clause sentences.
One feature the reviewer praised is the retention of physical buttons for key functions. For a vehicle in this price bracket, the author argues, physical controls are safer and more convenient than touch-only interfaces during driving.
Space: 20 carry-on bags with seats folded
The H6L's boot is a highlight. In its regular state, it can hold nine 20-inch carry-on suitcases with room to spare. With the second-row seats folded flat, cargo volume expands to 1,427 litres, enough for 20 such suitcases plus smaller items. The cabin offers 28 storage compartments in total. Front seats come with ventilation, heating and eight-point massage, while the rear seats have two-position reclining backrests and heating, aimed at keeping family passengers comfortable on longer trips.
The H6L is part of Haval's push to keep its best-selling H6 nameplate fresh in China's fiercely competitive compact-to-midsize SUV segment, where rivals include BYD's Song family and Changan's CS75 Plus. The model's combination of extra size, updated tech and a price point that undercuts many electrified competitors could help Haval defend its share as buyers increasingly shift toward new-energy vehicles.
