GWM's Wey Gaoshan Smart Edition Opens for Orders with Four-Dimension Upgrade

GWM's Wey brand has opened orders for the Gaoshan 8 and Gaoshan 9 Smart Edition MPVs, featuring upgrades in intelligent cockpit, ADAS, space, and powertrain, including a 29.6-inch display and dual LiDAR.

Great Wall Motor's (GWM) premium brand Wey has officially opened orders for the Gaoshan 8 and Gaoshan 9 Smart Edition plug-in hybrid MPVs, according to NetEase Auto. The launch event, themed around family travel, highlighted the vehicles' upgrades across four dimensions: intelligent cockpit, driver assistance, interior space, and powertrain performance.

Intelligent cockpit and ADAS upgrades

The Smart Edition models introduce a next-generation intelligent cockpit powered by a Qualcomm 8797 flagship chip and dual 5-megapixel sensing cameras. A standout feature is the industry-first 29.6-inch 6.4K QD-Mini LED integrated display spanning the center console and passenger side. The system uses dual VLA (Vision-Language-Action) large models to run separate intelligent agents for driving and cabin functions, enabling the 'Xiaowei' AI assistant to sense in-cabin conditions and anticipate family members' needs.

For driver assistance, the vehicles are equipped with the Coffee Pilot 4 system, featuring a Thor-U flagship computing chip, dual LiDAR, and a VLA driving model. The system can identify road hazards and blind spots, and supports one-tap parking in over 200 parking scenarios, addressing the challenges of maneuvering large MPVs in narrow lanes and complex conditions.

Space, powertrain, and market positioning

The Gaoshan Smart Edition offers a 3,823 mm interior length, with second and third-row seats on shared rails and a flat floor. Dual zero-gravity rotating seats can be configured in multiple modes: 45-degree welcome, 90-degree sightseeing, and 180-degree face-to-face seating, transforming the cabin into a mobile lounge for camping or social gatherings.

Powertrain-wise, the Gaoshan 9 Smart Edition is powered by a 2.0T hybrid-specific engine paired with the Hi4 performance intelligent all-wheel-drive system as standard. GWM claims ample power for highway overtaking and hill climbing even when fully loaded, while maintaining fuel efficiency.

The Smart Edition models will be sold alongside the existing Gaoshan lineup, offering multiple sizes, powertrains, and front-end designs. Customers who place orders can benefit from a limited-time offer: a 5,000 yuan deposit (about $700) can be applied as 8,000 yuan (about $1,130) toward the purchase price. Note that these are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.

Looking ahead, Wey plans to launch a Gaoshan 8 HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) version in the fourth quarter. The brand also announced a promotional film titled 'Good Big Family' to reinforce its family-oriented positioning.
