Geely partners with Google to build AI-powered digital cockpits for overseas cars

Geely Holding has signed a global strategic partnership with Google to equip eligible overseas models with Google Automotive Services, including the Gemini AI assistant, Google Maps and an in-car app store. The first vehicles are slated for the second half of 2027.

Geely Holding has announced a global strategic partnership with Google to develop intelligent in-car digital experiences for its overseas models, according to Chinese automotive outlet Gasgoo. The collaboration will see Geely's eligible brands adopt officially certified Google Automotive Services in markets where Google services are available, bringing features such as the Gemini AI assistant, Google Maps and a Google in-car app store to future vehicles.

The first models equipped with these services are planned for launch in the second half of 2027, with the timeline subject to product development, regulatory compliance and market readiness. The integrated system will offer multimodal AI voice interaction, global navigation, a wide range of in-car applications and seamless cross-device connectivity, all designed to enhance the driving experience while prioritising safety.

Deepening a long-standing relationship

This agreement builds on an existing collaboration between the two companies. Polestar, which is part of Geely's ecosystem, joined the program in 2020. Going forward, Google's automotive services will gradually be extended to more of Geely's passenger car brands, including Geely, Lynk & Co, Proton, Radar and smart.

Geely emphasized that the partnership reflects its commitment to localised operations, respecting the digital habits and service ecosystems of different markets. By leveraging Google's widely recognised digital ecosystem, the company aims to strengthen the digital connection between users and its vehicles overseas.

The announcement comes as Geely Holding reported record sales for the first three quarters of 2026. On October 15, the group announced cumulative sales of 3,002,640 vehicles, with new energy vehicle sales reaching 1,792,617 units, up 12.6% year-on-year. New energy vehicles accounted for 59.7% of total sales.
