Geely enters Canada, FAW-Toyota-GAC restructure, Luxshare takes full control of Jingxi Zhixing

Geely Auto announces entry into Canada with first models due in 2027; FAW, Toyota and GAC sign a new strategic framework that will see GAC buy FAW's 50% stake in FAW Toyota; Luxshare Precision takes 100% control of chassis supplier Jingxi Zhixing; Forvia Hella wins two integrated battery-management orders; OPmobility agrees to buy Hyundai Mobis' lighting business; Gentherm completes acquisition of Modine's high-performance technology unit.

Chinese automaker Geely Auto has announced it will enter the Canadian market, establishing a local company and beginning work on a retail and service network ahead of launching its first vehicles there in 2027, according to a weekly roundup published by Chinese outlet Gasgoo (盖世汽车). Geely said it will work with local dealers familiar with the market and build a support system covering the full ownership cycle, betting that a complete retail and service footprint is the key to success in Canada.

The move extends Geely's global push. The group's brands - Geely, Zeekr and Lynk & Co - already sell in more than 100 countries and regions. Geely's overseas sales are growing quickly: in the first nine months of 2026, cumulative sales exceeded 2.235 million units, a record for the period. Exports in the first nine months surpassed 797,000 units, up 169% year on year, with September exports alone topping 106,000 units, up 162%. New-energy vehicle exports in September exceeded 73,000 units, a 403% jump.

FAW, Toyota and GAC reshape joint-venture structure

In a separate development, China FAW, Toyota Motor and GAC Group signed a new strategic cooperation framework agreement in Guangzhou on October 8. Under the deal, GAC plans to buy FAW's 50% stake in FAW Toyota through a share issuance. FAW Toyota will continue to operate as an independent entity, while FAW will become a significant strategic shareholder in GAC. The two Toyota joint ventures - FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota - will coordinate in R&D, procurement, production and sales.

FAW and Toyota have cooperated since 2002, and GAC and Toyota formed their joint venture in 2004. The two ventures have accumulated more than 23.56 million customers in China. The new framework is intended to help both accelerate their electrification and intelligent-driving plans, Gasgoo noted.

Luxshare takes full control of chassis supplier

Luxshare Precision has completed the acquisition of Jingxi Zhixing, taking 100% control of the chassis supplier. The shares were transferred on October 9 from Zhangjiakou Industrial Investment Holding Group. Jingxi Zhixing will now be fully integrated into Luxshare's automotive chassis business, covering suspension, braking and steering systems. After the merger, Luxshare's chassis R&D and manufacturing network spans China, Europe, North America and South America, with eight technical R&D centers, seven production bases and two proving grounds.

Forvia Hella, meanwhile, has won two production orders for its integrated EnergyCore solutions: a three-in-one high-voltage battery management system and a 48V PowerPack. The systems will be delivered to two international automakers in the Americas and Europe, with total order value in the hundreds of millions of euros. Production starts in December 2027 and spring 2028 respectively. The three-in-one system integrates the battery management unit, cell measurement unit and battery junction box into a single unit, reducing component count, wiring, space and weight. The 48V PowerPack combines a low-voltage DC/DC converter with a low-voltage battery management system and achieves ASIL-D+ safety level.

In another deal, French supplier OPmobility has agreed to fully acquire Hyundai Mobis' lighting business at an enterprise value of 600 billion won (about 3.9 billion euros). The business generated 2.5 trillion won (about 1.6 billion euros) in revenue in 2025 and operates five plants in South Korea, China, Mexico and the Czech Republic. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2027, subject to antitrust and regulatory approvals.

Finally, thermal management company Gentherm has completed its acquisition of Modine's high-performance technology business. Modine's brand, domain names and trademarks have been transferred, and the business will continue to operate under the Modine name as a standalone division within Gentherm. The former Modine company plans to rename itself Modexus Solutions after shareholder approval, while continuing to use the Modine brand in its commercial HVAC operations under a licensing agreement.
