GAC Trumpchi has opened pre-sales for its new Yue 7 SUV in Guangzhou, positioning the boxy plug-in hybrid as a family vehicle that can handle both city commuting and weekend off-road trips. The pre-sale price starts at 171,800 yuan (about $24,200) and rises to 217,800 yuan (about $30,700), according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (Dian Dong Bang).
The Yue 7, which GAC Trumpchi calls a "full-scenario smart hardcore SUV," is built around a square, boxy design language the company calls "eight-direction aesthetics." An octagonal motif runs through the exterior and interior, from window outlines and wheel arches to the dashboard and physical buttons. The brand says the look balances off-road ruggedness with the softer feel expected of a family car.
Powertrain and off-road capability
Under the body, the Yue 7 uses GAC's latest Xingyuan plug-in hybrid system, combining a combustion engine with electric motors for a combined output of 550 kW (about 738 hp). The company claims a 0-100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds, which it says is the fastest in its boxy-SUV class. The battery is a 46 kWh pack supplied by CATL's Xiaoyao series, giving a CLTC electric-only range of up to 261 km and a combined range of up to 1,352 km. In WLTP terms, the electric range would be roughly 209-222 km (est.), as CLTC figures tend to be 15-20% more optimistic. The claimed WLTC fuel consumption when the battery is depleted is 6.21 L/100 km.
For off-road use, the Yue 7 offers a 30-degree approach angle, a 33-degree departure angle, and up to 310 mm of ground clearance. It comes with what GAC calls "two hard and one soft" three locks, and the intelligent plug-in hybrid all-wheel-drive system delivers a combined wheel-end torque of 10,000 Nm. The company claims a 75% hill-climbing capability and says the vehicle can handle cross-axle and pothole terrain. An AI-based all-terrain system provides 9+X driving modes that adjust vehicle settings automatically, and a 1.1-metre panoramic screen displays vehicle and environmental information to ease off-road operation.
Comfort and safety features
Drawing on GAC Trumpchi's experience in MPVs, the Yue 7 focuses on interior space and comfort. The company says the cabin achieves an 81% usable-space ratio, with a 170 mm electric sliding rail for the second row and maximum rear legroom of 1,015 mm. A one-touch electric flat bed mode creates a 1.9-metre flat sleeping area without manual folding. The suspension uses closed dual-chamber air springs with continuously variable damping, plus active preview and motion-sickness-reduction technology for a smoother ride.
Safety features include an integrated frame with a five-longitudinal, 13-lateral body protection structure and a 1,300 MPa hot-stamped steel shield under the battery. An "Eagle Claw" system actively stabilises the vehicle in the event of a high-speed tyre blowout. GAC says the Yue 7 is the only passenger car to have passed a 46-metre rollover test and extreme high-temperature testing. The vehicle underwent two winters and two summers of testing, plus extreme-environment trials, with a single-vehicle equivalent of 500,000 km of durability testing.
The Yue 7 comes with 37 factory-installed expansion points for accessories and 38 interior storage locations, plus dual 220V power outlets for outdoor use. GAC says modifications can be installed without cutting or welding. Pre-sale customers receive benefits worth up to 28,000 yuan, including trade-in subsidies, a zero-down-payment financing plan, and a free upgrade to an off-road package or comfort configuration. The company is also giving away one year of free use to select customers, with two winners drawn at the pre-sale launch and three more at the official launch.
The 171,800-217,800 yuan price band is one of the most competitive segments for family SUVs in China, and the Yue 7 faces rivals from established brands as well as newer players. GAC Trumpchi's pitch is that the Yue 7 combines plug-in hybrid efficiency, air suspension, three locks, AI terrain modes, a flat bed, and 261 km of electric range in one package - a combination it says is rare at this price point.
