GAC Trumpchi has opened pre-sales for its new boxy SUV, the Yue 7, in China, with a starting guide price of 171,800 yuan (about $24,200) before taxes and incentives. The model, which blends rugged off-road styling with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains, is positioned as a versatile choice for both city commuting and weekend adventures, according to Autohome.
Design and Dimensions
The Yue 7 features a square, boxy silhouette with flat lines, an active grille bearing GAC lettering, and vertical five-element matrix headlights. The exterior includes a robust front bumper, flared wheel arches, and a roof-mounted lidar unit. Measuring 5,045 mm (including the spare tire) in length, 2,004 mm in width, and 1,933 mm in height, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, the SUV offers approach and departure angles of 30 and 33 degrees, respectively, and a minimum ground clearance of 230 mm (310 mm with air suspension).
The rear features a side-hinged tailgate with a modular external storage system that can accommodate either a spare tire or a storage box. The vehicle provides 37 factory-installed expansion points for accessories. Four exterior colors are available: desert sand, black, silver, and white.
Inside, the cabin adopts a rugged, straight-line design with three color themes. A 1.1-meter panoramic screen spans the dashboard, powered by a Qualcomm 8838 chip, running the ADiGO 7.0 infotainment system. The system supports CarPlay, HiCar, CarLink, and MagicRing connectivity, along with voice control, facial recognition, and remote functions. The five-seat layout offers a 745-liter trunk, expandable to 1,860 liters with the rear seats folded, and a 20-speaker ADiGO SOUND PRO audio system with active noise cancellation.
Powertrain and Off-Road Capability
The Yue 7 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with electric motors in a plug-in hybrid system. The engine produces 125 kW (168 hp), while the single-motor version delivers 205 kW (275 hp) and the dual-motor version a combined 425 kW (570 hp), enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.2 seconds. Battery options include 28.3 kWh and 45.975 kWh packs, offering CLTC electric-only ranges of 161 km, 261 km, and 259 km depending on configuration. Note that CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP, so real-world ranges are likely lower (estimated WLTP: 130-210 km). Combined CLTC range reaches up to 1,352 km, with WLTC fuel consumption from 6.21 to 6.49 L/100 km when the battery is depleted. Fast charging from 30% to 80% takes 15-18 minutes, and the vehicle supports 6 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) discharge.
Off-road hardware includes front and rear mechanical differential locks, an energy center lock, and a 9+X intelligent all-terrain mode system. The suspension uses double wishbones at the front and a five-link setup at the rear, with closed dual-chamber air springs and continuously variable damping. The body-on-frame construction with an embedded frame enhances rigidity, and the maximum wading depth is 780 mm.
The Ultra trim adds a 192-line lidar, enabling highway and city navigation assistance, as well as automated parking features. Active safety systems include blind-spot monitoring, door-opening warning, and automatic emergency braking.
The Yue 7 is expected to compete in China's growing boxy SUV segment, which includes models like the Tank 300 and the BYD Leopard 5. Pre-sale pricing undercuts many rivals, potentially attracting buyers seeking a blend of on-road comfort and off-road capability.
