GAC-Huawei Qijing GX7 SUV to launch Sept 23, pre-orders top 20,000 in 18 hours

The Qijing GX7, the first SUV from the GAC-Huawei joint brand, will hit the Chinese market on Sept 23. Priced from 249,900 yuan (about $35,200), it features a one-key flat-bed rear seat, Huawei's full-stack ADAS and smart cabin, and a combined range over 1,500 km.

Qijing Auto, the joint brand formed by GAC and Huawei, has announced that its first SUV, the Qijing GX7, will go on sale nationwide in China on September 23. The large five-seat family SUV is positioned around a novel 20-second one-key flat-bed rear seat, and comes with Huawei's full-stack intelligent driving and cabin systems, according to NetEase Auto.

The GX7 opened for pre-orders on September 4 in three trims, all EREV (range-extender electric) versions: Ultra, Ultra dual-motor, and Ultra tri-motor, priced at 249,900 yuan, 269,900 yuan, and 311,900 yuan respectively (about $35,200, $38,000, and $43,900). These are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives. Pre-orders exceeded 20,000 units within 18 hours, the company said, with many customers coming from traditional premium SUV ownership.

Huawei tech throughout

The GX7 is the first model to feature Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 advanced driver assistance system, with four lidar units, five 4D millimeter-wave radars, and 38 high-performance sensors in total. It supports parking-lot-to-parking-lot navigation covering 1.2 million parking lots in China, plus features like automatic avoidance in narrow-road meetings and gesture-based parking. The cabin runs HarmonySpace 6, Huawei's latest smart cockpit, with dual 15.6-inch screens, a 32-inch rear laser projector, and a 21-speaker HUAWEI SOUND system.

The SUV is built on Huawei's Chitu digital chassis, with a full-aluminum rear H-arm suspension, dual-chamber air suspension, and continuously variable damping. A 1.5T range extender produces 125 kW (168 hp), and the tri-motor version delivers a combined 550 kW (738 hp), achieving a 0-100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds.

Range and battery

The GX7 uses CATL batteries in 52 kWh and 67 kWh capacities, with the larger pack offering a CLTC pure-electric range of up to 385 km. Combined range exceeds 1,500 km, with a claimed fuel consumption of 4.85 L/100 km when the battery is depleted. Note that CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP; a WLTP estimate for the pure-electric range would be around 310-330 km (est.). The 800V architecture allows a 30-80% fast charge in about 10 minutes.

Safety features include a cage body with 90.3% high-strength steel and aluminum, 11 airbags (including a driver's knee airbag and a 2.3-meter side curtain), and a four-redundant door-unlock system with Huawei's dual-redundant low-voltage power supply.

The GX7 measures 5,099 mm long, 2,006 mm wide, and 1,750 mm tall, with a 3,070 mm wheelbase. Six exterior colors and three interior themes are offered. The flat-bed seat function folds the rear seats into a completely flat bed in 20 seconds without removing luggage, retaining 855 mm of vertical space and storage for four 20-inch or two 24-inch suitcases, according to NetEase Auto.
