GAC Aion Ray7 opens pre-sales from 128,800 yuan as Beijing Marathon pace car

GAC Aion has opened pre-sales for its Ray7 electric sedan at 128,800-158,800 yuan (about $18,100-$22,400), with the model serving as the official pace car at the 2026 Beijing Marathon.

GAC Aion has opened pre-sales for its new Ray7 electric sedan, priced from 128,800 to 158,800 yuan (about $18,100 to $22,400) as a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives. The model made its public debut as the official timing and pace car at the 2026 Beijing Marathon on October 18, according to Chinese outlet Diandongbang.

The Ray7, described by Aion as a "super pure-electric sedan for young people," is a BEV (battery-electric) model with a low-slung, wide body measuring over 5 metres long. It features a lightning-yellow paint job that Aion says matches the shade used by Ferrari, and comes with 27 high-value features as standard.

Technology and performance

Aion highlights the Ray7's global-first integration of Huawei's DriveONE chip-level drive-brake fusion architecture, paired with EMB (electro-mechanical brake) full-wire-controlled braking. The company says the rear-wheel-drive chassis delivers precise speed control, a trait it leveraged during the marathon to maintain a steady pace for runners.

During the pre-sale period, customers who pay a 599 yuan deposit (about $84) receive a package of benefits valued at 27,000 yuan (about $3,800), including a free 3,999 yuan (about $563) summer-purple custom paint option, a 3,999 yuan integrated sports seat, and on the 702 rear-drive EMB laser-equipped version, a free upgrade to high-performance wheels with yellow brake calipers worth 3,999 yuan. A 4,999 yuan (about $704) triple-layer silver-coated sunroof is also free, with the 702 version additionally upgraded to a 17-speaker premium audio system valued at 5,000 yuan (about $704).

Existing owners of brands under GAC Group, Aion's parent, receive a 500 yuan (about $70) credit in loyalty points when they buy a Ray7.

Marathon tie-in

The Beijing Marathon, China's oldest city marathon, drew more than 30,000 runners this year. Aion served as the event's exclusive official vehicle provider, with the Ray7 leading a fleet of Aion models that supported the race. The company framed the partnership as a natural fit between a national sporting event and a national brand, echoing the marathon's spirit of ordinary people pushing their limits.

Aion said the Ray7 embodies its "Ray" philosophy, which encourages young people to try new things. The model's pre-sale launch comes as Aion, a unit of GAC Group, continues to expand its EV lineup in China's competitive electric-vehicle market.
