GAC Aion has launched the N60, a compact battery-electric SUV (BEV) that brings lidar and full-scenario assisted driving to the roughly 100,000-yuan price bracket in China. The model is priced from 109,800 to 129,800 yuan (about $15,500 to $18,300) as a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives, according to Autohome.
The N60 is offered in three trims that differ only in range: 410 km, 510 km and 610 km on the CLTC cycle. Because the two lower trims carry smaller battery packs and weigh less, they accelerate slightly faster, hitting 100 km/h from rest in 7.9 seconds versus a slightly slower time for the top version. Autohome notes that all three trims share the same comfort and intelligence equipment, including the lidar, a front passenger zero-gravity seat, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8650 chip, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a 15.6-inch 2.5K central display and a panoramic glass roof.
Lidar as standard, not a premium option
The N60's main selling point is that lidar and a 4D millimetre-wave radar are standard across the range, avoiding the common Chinese practice of reserving key hardware for top trims. The system uses a WeRide end-to-end large model and comes with NDA (navigation-assisted driving) that covers highways, urban roads and rural routes, Autohome said. Parking assistance handles narrow, curved and dead-end spaces, and supports memory parking across up to 3 km and multiple floors.
A recent over-the-air update added functions such as parking assist when leaving the car, remote parking-out assist, one-tap NDA activation from park, three-point turns and a no-navigation parking search mode. For novice drivers, the assisted-driving suite lowers the barrier to entry in a segment where most rivals offer only basic reversing cameras, the outlet said.
Family and ride-hailing use cases
The N60 measures 4,615 mm long, 1,883 mm wide and 1,673 mm tall, with a 2,775 mm wheelbase. Its MPV-like body gives generous rear headroom, rear seatbacks that recline up to 137 degrees, a boot that expands to 1,947 litres and a 69-litre underfloor storage bin. A 50 W wireless charging pad and an optional 6.6-litre fridge round out the family-oriented package.
For ride-hailing and urban commercial use, the N60 uses an amorphous alloy silicon carbide motor that GAC Aion claims is 99% efficient. Autohome's own test over 196.5 km showed an average consumption of 14.7 kWh per 100 km. The car comes with lifetime warranty on the battery, motor and electronic control for the first owner, plus a four-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty.
Autohome advises that buyers who frequently drive long distances across provinces, need light off-road capability, or have a budget below 100,000 yuan may want to look elsewhere. For those with a budget just above 100,000 yuan who value space, comfort and assisted driving over maximum range, the N60's three trims offer a simple choice based on daily commuting distance.
