GAC Aion has launched the 2027 Aion i60, a five-seat SUV offered in both battery-electric (BEV) and range-extender (EREV) versions, with an entry-level launch price of 118,800 yuan (about $16,700). The model is the second collaboration between GAC Group and autonomous driving firm WeRide, following the Aion N60, according to Chinese outlet First Electric.
WeRide's L4 experience trickles down
The i60 is the first production vehicle to feature WeRide's WRD 3.0, a single-stage end-to-end assisted driving solution. WeRide says the system leverages nearly a decade of L4 autonomous driving experience, accumulated across 13 countries and more than 60 cities, to deliver L2++ features. These include full-scenario navigation driving assistance (NDA) activated in Park, unguided roaming in parking lots, remote park assist, three-point turns, and parking-lot-to-parking-lot navigation assistance.
WeRide's technology stack, including the WeRide One platform, the WITT physical AI foundation model, and the GENESIS world model, translates L4 capabilities into production-grade assistance. The system aims to interpret traffic participant behavior, predict traffic trends, and execute driving actions that feel natural to human drivers, according to the company.
Scaling up collaboration
The launch marks a shift from single-model validation to multi-model scale deployment for WeRide and GAC. The two companies plan to integrate WRD 3.0 into more GAC brands and models, bringing advanced driver assistance to the mainstream market. The 2027 Aion i60 is positioned as a "national people's SUV," targeting broad consumer appeal with its dual powertrain options and accessible pricing.
First Electric reports that the vehicle is available immediately, with customers able to experience the L2++ features upon delivery. The collaboration underscores the growing trend of Chinese automakers partnering with autonomous driving specialists to differentiate their products in a competitive market.
