Foton Auman lineup targets China's long-haul, regional and construction trucking niches

PCauto compares Foton's Auman Galaxy 9, 7, 3 and T trucks with rivals from Jiefang and Shaanxi Auto, highlighting powertrain, efficiency and price points across different haulage tasks.

Chinese truck buyers face a wide choice of models tailored to specific duties, from long-haul highway runs to urban delivery and construction sites. A recent guide from PCauto compares Foton's Auman Galaxy series with offerings from Jiefang and Shaanxi Auto, showing how each vehicle is positioned for different workloads.

Long-haul and regional haulage

For long-distance heavy haulage, the Auman Galaxy 9 stands out with a 680 hp (500 kW) diesel engine paired with a ZF automated manual transmission (AMT). The 6x4 tractor unit has a gross vehicle mass of 25 tonnes and can pull a trailer up to 40 tonnes, reaching a top speed of 89 km/h. The powertrain, dubbed Super Powertrain 5.0, is jointly calibrated with ZF and claims a transmission efficiency of 99.7% and shift response of 0.62 seconds. PCauto lists a reference price of about 490,000 yuan (about $69,000) for a specific configuration, noting that final pricing depends on options and is a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives.

In the regional cargo segment, the Auman Galaxy 7 and Galaxy 3 offer different trade-offs. The Galaxy 7 uses the same Super Powertrain 5.0 and claims an 8% fuel consumption reduction, with power options from 480 to 620 hp (353 to 456 kW). The Galaxy 3, powered by a 380 hp (280 kW) Foton A7 engine with 1,400 Nm of torque, is 200 kg lighter than rivals and has a turning radius of 8.78 metres, making it easier to manoeuvre in narrow streets. Its 2,350 mm wide cab offers a 700 mm or 900 mm bunk, expandable to 1,200 mm, catering to short rest breaks on 200-300 km routes.

For fleets with fixed routes and high annual mileage, the Jiefang J6G Pro offers extended service intervals: its 7.8-litre engine and 10-speed gearbox use low-viscosity oil and oil-lubricated wheel ends, achieving over 98% transmission efficiency. The B10 life of the major assemblies is 800,000 km, with wheel-end maintenance and air filter replacement intervals of 100,000 km.

Urban delivery and construction

In the electric light truck segment, Foton's Qimingxing platform includes three models: the Aoling Jidian, Oumark Z, and Kawan Letu Pro. All share an 800V high-voltage architecture and 2C fast charging, allowing a 20% to 80% charge in about 18 minutes. The SiC oil-cooled flat-wire e-drive claims a combined efficiency of 95.7%. The Oumark Z can be equipped with a 165 kWh battery for a CLTC range of over 600 km (WLTP est. 480-510 km), while the cold-chain version uses a 140 kWh battery for a 400 km range (WLTP est. 320-340 km) with temperature control within 1 degree Celsius. The Kawan Letu Pro, in its 6-tonne e-axle version, has a compliant payload of 6 tonnes and a tested energy consumption as low as 20.8 kWh per 100 km under heavy load.

For last-mile delivery, the Kawan Lefu van offers 7 to 9 cubic metres of cargo space, with a 66 kWh battery providing a CLTC range of 460 km (WLTP est. 370-390 km) and energy consumption of 13.7-14.1 kWh per 100 km. It starts at 69,800 yuan (about $9,800). For shorter routes, the Fengjing T7 offers a 287 km range (CLTC) with an energy cost of about 0.09 yuan per kilometre.

In construction and dump truck applications, the Auman Galaxy T offers both conventional and electric powertrains. Conventional versions range from 350 to 680 hp (257 to 500 kW), while electric versions have peak power from 440 to 620 kW and battery options of 400, 466, 528, and 600 kWh. The hybrid Galaxy TM provides battery capacities from 262 to 600 kWh. The electric dump trucks use CATL standard-box batteries with heating and water circulation, plus scheduled parking heating for cold regions. An EBS-based electric braking priority strategy improves regenerative braking energy recovery to 15-20%.

PCauto notes that Foton Auman's product line spans tractors, cargo trucks, dump trucks, and special vehicles, with fuel, gas, electric, hybrid, and hydrogen powertrain options. The company operates over 900 first-tier and 1,200 second-tier service networks, with a 96% first-attempt success rate for digital dispatch. The guide advises buyers to consider total cost of ownership, including body, insurance, financing, and operating reserves, and to test vehicles on real routes with actual loads.
