Firefly pushes Aster 2.1.0 OTA update with 19 cabin, voice and vehicle upgrades

Firefly has begun rolling out the Aster 2.1.0 over-the-air update to all owners, adding 19 new and improved features across the smart cabin, the Lumo voice assistant and general vehicle experience.

Firefly, the small electric-car brand under Nio, has started pushing version 2.1.0 of its Aster infotainment system to all owners, according to Chinese automotive outlet PCauto. The over-the-air (OTA) update, released on October 14, brings 19 new and improved features spanning the smart cabin, the Lumo voice assistant and overall vehicle experience.

Lumo gets smarter, cabin gets more playful

The update strengthens Lumo, Firefly's in-car voice assistant, with improved encyclopedia lookups and casual chat abilities. PCauto reports that the system now answers questions more accurately, explains terms more clearly and follows conversational logic closer to natural human dialogue, while better recognising the intent and emotion behind a driver's words.

Inside the cabin, Firefly has added several entertainment features. The virtual IP "Glow Squad" gains a new character called "Raccoon Ami," which can link to the vehicle's status to enrich the sense of companionship on board. The infotainment system also adds a karaoke function, allowing occupants to sing along using a microphone. Meanwhile, the "Chameleon Firefly" personalisation feature gains two new template styles, "Magic Academy" and "Squishy Squad," expanding the AIGC-based creative options available to users.

Rollout begins immediately

Beyond the headline features, the update includes refinements across the whole vehicle, with PCauto saying the changes are designed to improve daily driving from multiple scenarios. The Aster 2.1.0 version will be pushed to all Firefly owners progressively from today, and users are advised to watch for an upgrade prompt on the vehicle's display.

Firefly is a sub-brand of Nio, launched to compete in China's crowded small electric-car segment. The brand's first model, the Firefly, is a battery-electric (BEV) city car that went on sale in China earlier this year. The company has positioned Aster as a key differentiator, aiming to combine smart features with playful, entertainment-focused cabin experiences in a segment where software polish is increasingly important.

The update comes as Chinese EV makers race to improve in-car software, with over-the-air updates becoming a standard way to add features after purchase. For Firefly, the emphasis on voice interaction and cabin entertainment reflects an effort to appeal to younger, tech-savvy buyers in the urban commuter market.
