FAW Besturn has introduced a new variant of its Xiaoma mini electric vehicle, dubbed Jixiangma, at a Chinese guide price of 37,900 yuan (about $5,340) before taxes and incentives. The new model, announced on September 8, adds a CATL battery pack and redesigned LED headlights to the existing six-model lineup, according to the Chinese automotive outlet 电动邦 (Dian Dong Bang).
Key upgrades and positioning
The Jixiangma variant swaps in a battery from CATL, a supplier rarely seen in this segment, which the company says offers reliable range and consistent performance in cold weather. The new LED headlights are brighter and longer-lasting, improving nighttime visibility. Inside, the car features a cocoa-brown two-tone color scheme for a more refined cabin feel.
Besturn positions the Xiaoma as a practical urban runabout for families, especially parents shuttling children to school. The car's compact size allows it to make U-turns in narrow streets, and its running costs are touted at less than five fen (about 0.7 US cents) per kilometer. The brand also emphasizes its "six good" attributes: cute looks, playful design, easy driving, low cost, safety, and peace of mind.
Sales and warranty
Since its launch, the Xiaoma has accumulated sales of over 220,000 units, making it a popular choice in its segment. The Jixiangma continues the lineup's warranty package, which includes lifetime coverage for the vehicle, its electric drive system, battery degradation, roadside assistance, and a zero-combustion promise for the battery system.
The new variant is part of Besturn's strategy to strengthen its presence in the affordable EV segment, leveraging parent company FAW's decades of manufacturing experience. The Jixiangma name, which translates to "auspicious horse," also aligns with the upcoming Chinese zodiac Year of the Horse, adding a festive touch to the launch.
