Chinese automaker Dongfeng has introduced the Yipai M8, a large six-seat SUV designed to cater to the diverse needs of families with elderly members and children. According to PCauto, the vehicle combines safety technologies, comfort features, and practical storage solutions to address the challenges of multi-passenger travel.
The Yipai M8 is equipped with a blowout stability system that can detect a tire blowout within 200 milliseconds and maintain vehicle stability at speeds up to 120 km/h (75 mph) on straight roads and 100 km/h (62 mph) in corners, using differential braking. It also includes an anti-skid system for slippery surfaces, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and acceleration pedal misapplication prevention.
Comfort and interior
The front seats offer 20-way electric adjustment and 10-point massage, while an adaptive suspension adjusts damping in 25-50 milliseconds to reduce bumps and body roll. The cabin features OEKO-TEX certified fabrics, a fresh air system with MOFs filters, and a dual-door smart cooler/warmer with a temperature range from -6°C to 50°C. With 42 storage compartments, the M8 aims to keep family essentials organized.
The M8 measures 5,020 mm in length with a wheelbase of 3,025 mm, providing over 50 mm of knee room in both second and third rows. The standard trunk volume is 369 liters, expandable to 1,794 liters with seats folded. The vehicle uses a flat floor for easier movement.
Warranty and safety
For first owners of non-commercial vehicles, the M8 offers a lifetime warranty on the vehicle and its electric drive components. The body uses high-strength steel (70.8%) and hot-formed steel (19.1%). The pure electric version uses CATL lithium iron phosphate cells and a 16,000-ton integrated die-cast battery pack, while the range-extender version uses cells from Sunwoda.
The M8 is positioned against rivals such as the Huajing S, Leapmotor D19, and Galaxy M9. The Huajing S, priced from 159,800 to 203,800 yuan (about $22,500 to $28,700), features Huawei's ADS Pro ADAS and HarmonyOS cockpit. The Leapmotor D19 (219,800-269,800 yuan, about $31,000-$38,000) offers dual 8797 chips and a five-screen cabin. The Galaxy M9 (173,800-259,800 yuan, about $24,500-$36,600) has a 30-inch 6K display and hybrid powertrain.
PCauto notes that while the M8's features are impressive, families should test drive on varied roads to assess seat comfort and ride quality. The vehicle's warranty is a separate consideration from crash safety, and the cooler's temperature range does not guarantee food preservation for all items.
