At the opening of Dongfeng Motor's 10th Science and Technology Innovation Week on September 14, Yijing Automobile held a safety technology briefing. Zeng Qinglin, the brand's head, systematically outlined the company's safety technology system and unveiled the "Tianqiong Zhidun" all-time safety architecture. The first model to feature the system, the Yijing X9, saw several test results disclosed, according to Gasgoo.
Two-layer protection
The architecture treats safety risks across both time and space dimensions, covering pre-emptive prediction, active intervention during an incident, and post-incident fallback. The approach aligns conceptually with Huawei's "Tao's Law," the document noted. Outside the "Tianqiong" (dome), Huawei's Qiankun ADS5 autonomous driving system handles perception and active intervention, while Dongfeng's vehicle safety capabilities manage body structure, battery, occupant health, and rescue operations inside.
The Yijing X9 is equipped with a four-lidar setup, including one 896-line forward-facing lidar and three high-definition solid-state lidars, for a total of 32 fused perception sensors. The system can identify obstacles as low as 14 centimeters at a distance of 120 meters. In a public test broadcast by CCTV News, the vehicle successfully detected and avoided obstacles at night under high-beam glare and heavy rain with low visibility.
Crash test results
The body uses a cage structure with six longitudinal and 11 transverse beams. It completed a near-2.48-tonne moving barrier test at 105 km/h in a frontal offset collision, with the passenger compartment remaining intact, no obvious A-pillar deformation, all four doors opening normally, and zero battery leakage or fire. After a 16-tonne container was dropped on the roof, the doors still opened. The battery has four layers of defense, and rescue features include mechanical door release, electronic residual unlocking, a supercapacitor, and an E-Call system. Interior health measures include soft-touch skin-friendly antibacterial materials and a negative-ion fresh air system.
Zeng quoted a veteran engineer's saying that national standards are only the baseline, and design margins should be pushed higher. The Yijing X9's launch date and pricing have not been announced.
