Dongfeng's luxury off-road brand Mengshi has taken its first step from concept to showroom, with the first production X700 rolling off the line at a new plant in Xiangyang, Hubei province, on October 10, according to NetEase Auto. The model, positioned as a premium all-terrain SUV, opens pre-sales on September 28 and is scheduled to hit the market at the end of October.
The X700, the first model in Mengshi's X series, is offered in three trims: four-wheel-drive Max, Max+, and Ultra, with pre-sale prices ranging from 249,800 yuan to 289,800 yuan (about $35,200 to $40,800). These are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives. Within 24 hours of pre-sales opening, the company said it received more than 8,000 small deposits.
The Xiangyang plant, which is dedicated to Dongfeng's new-energy intelligent off-road vehicle program, completed 80 industrial upgrade tasks to prepare for production, including new robots and automated guided vehicles across welding, painting, and assembly workshops. Dongfeng says the facility's automation and digital manufacturing capabilities, combined with its 57 years of military off-road vehicle experience, underpin the X700's build quality.
Huawei tech and off-road credentials
The X700 is equipped with Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 driver assistance system, HarmonyOS cockpit 6, and a suite of eight intelligent off-road technologies developed jointly by Huawei and Mengshi. The vehicle also features Mengshi's Panshi 2.0 chassis, which won a top-10 chassis award from the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, and a body structure that received top-10 body and innovation awards.
For off-road capability, the X700 offers approach and departure angles of 37.5 degrees and 38.3 degrees respectively, and a maximum wading depth of 800 mm. The model is a battery-electric vehicle (BEV), though the source does not specify powertrain output or battery capacity.
Mengshi CEO Wan Liangyu said in a statement: "Rolling off the line is not the finish line, but the starting point for handing over to customers." The company now faces the task of converting pre-sale interest into real-world satisfaction as it begins deliveries.
