Denza, BYD's premium brand, has expanded its N8L SUV family with a battery-electric (BEV) version, starting at 299,800 yuan (about $42,200) in China. The new N8L BEV, launched on September 14, comes in two trims - the Flash Charge Premium and Flash Charge Flagship, priced at 299,800 yuan and 329,800 yuan respectively, according to NetEase Auto.
The BEV joins the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) N8L that Denza introduced in June, which sells for 319,800 yuan (about $45,000) and 349,800 yuan (about $49,300). With both powertrains now available, Denza has completed the N8L lineup, targeting families and business users who want a large six-seat SUV.
Long-range BEV with a powered front trunk
The N8L BEV is powered by a 370 kW (503 hp) electric motor and a 130.15 kWh second-generation blade battery from parent company BYD. It delivers a CLTC-rated range of 960 km, which translates to roughly 770-820 km under the more conservative WLTP cycle (est.). The Chinese test standard tends to be 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP, so real-world range will likely be lower. Denza says the battery supports fast charging to ease range anxiety on long trips.
A notable addition is a 208-litre powered front trunk, which can be opened by knocking, kicking or via a smartphone app. The compartment is split into upper and lower sections with wet and dry separation, making it practical for luggage, charging cables or outdoor gear.
The N8L measures 5,200 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,820 mm tall, with a 3,075 mm wheelbase, placing it firmly in the large SUV segment. Inside, it keeps the 2+2+2 six-seat layout with Nappa leather seats, heating, ventilation and massage for the first two rows, plus a heated third row. The front passenger gets a zero-gravity seat with adjustable leg support.
Six screens, DiDiXia AI and ADAS suite
The cabin features six displays: a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, a 13.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, a 13.2-inch passenger screen, a 17.3-inch rear entertainment screen and a 9-inch streaming rearview mirror. The system runs on DiDiXia, BYD's multimodal large-model AI assistant, which supports long-memory conversations and multiple dialect recognition. A feature called DiDi Drumming lets occupants turn the steering wheel and pedals into a drum kit for family entertainment.
For driver assistance, the N8L BEV comes standard with the God's Eye 5.0 system, built around a single Nvidia Orin-X chip with 254 TOPS of computing power, one lidar and 30 sensors including 12 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars and five millimetre-wave radars. It covers highway and city navigation, automated parking and lane changes. Denza offers a guarantee for city navigation assistance, promising coverage for most daily driving scenarios.
The SUV rides on the YunNian-A dual-chamber air suspension with continuously variable damping and a road-preview system that adjusts damping in milliseconds. Rear-wheel steering of up to 7 degrees cuts the turning circle, helping the 5.2-metre SUV manoeuvre in tight urban streets.
Denza is also bundling purchase incentives such as one year of free fast charging, one year of free DiDiXia and city ADAS coverage, plus up to 49,000 yuan (about $6,900) in option credits and subsidies. The N8L BEV is available in five colours, including two new finishes - Gold Shimmer Ink and Winter Green.
