Deepal, the electric-vehicle brand backed by Changan, reported global sales of 28,659 vehicles in August, with the S05 compact SUV contributing 17,474 units, a year-on-year increase of 43.42% and a month-on-month rise of 24.29%, according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (Dian Dong Bang). The S05 has averaged more than 10,000 monthly sales since launch, with cumulative global sales exceeding 260,000 units, placing it among the top tier of 150,000-yuan-class compact new-energy SUVs.
Affordable lidar and advanced driver assistance
The updated S05 brings lidar and a one-stage end-to-end algorithm to the mainstream 150,000-yuan (about $21,100) family market, a feature previously reserved for premium models. The car's TianShu intelligent driving system uses 27 high-precision sensors, including one lidar, paired with dual Horizon Journey 6M chips and a one-stage end-to-end algorithm similar to Tesla's, enabling near-human predictive and decision-making capabilities. The system supports over 90 driver-assistance functions, covering urban, highway, and parking scenarios, and includes a full-scene roaming assist that works without high-definition maps.
Inside, the S05 features a 3nm automotive-grade cockpit chip, which Deepal claims is on par with top-tier smartphone processors and three to five years ahead of the industry. The cabin also includes a four-map fusion real-time lane-level navigation system, a 15.6-inch 2.5K sunflower display, an 18-speaker sky-surround audio system, and an AI voice assistant with deep reasoning capabilities.
Comfort, range, and global expansion
For ride comfort, the new S05 comes standard with an FSD+HRS high-order adaptive suspension system that adjusts damping in real time, providing support during cornering and softening over rough roads to reduce vibration. The system, combined with hydraulic rebound damping, aims to eliminate pitching, body roll, and harshness, ensuring stable rides for families.
Two battery-electric versions are offered with CLTC ranges of 520 km (about 442 km WLTP est.) (about 323 miles) and 620 km (about 385 miles), with a claimed 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 6.28 seconds. The car supports 3C fast charging, taking no more than 15 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%. A wide-temperature-zone micro-core high-frequency pulse heating system and heat pump cut charging time by 55% in -30°C conditions and extend range by 21 km (13 miles).
Design updates include the Star Wing 2.0 language with new light strips, dual waistlines, 18-inch wheels, frameless doors, and semi-hidden mechanical handles. Interior options include a new Nebula Purple color, with 99% of the cabin covered in premium leather-like material, wood-textured trim, and 256-color ambient lighting.
The S05 has expanded to 73 countries and regions, with overseas monthly sales exceeding 6,000 units. It has won the German iF Design Award and Thailand's Best Rear-Drive Compact Electric SUV award, and ranked first in J.D. Power's 2026 China New Energy Vehicle Initial Quality Study for compact pure electric SUVs. Olympic gymnastics champion He Kexin is the first celebrity owner of the new S05.
