China's National Supercomputing Internet Surpasses 1.7 Million Registered Users, Domestic Computing Power Exceeds 95%

The National Supercomputing Internet has surpassed 1.7 million registered users, with domestic computing power accounting for over 95%, according to a senior executive at Sugon.

China's National Supercomputing Internet has reached a new milestone, with registered users exceeding 1.7 million and domestic computing power now accounting for more than 95% of the platform's total capacity, according to a statement by Cao Zhennan, vice president of Sugon, at the 2026 China Computing Power Conference on September 12.

The platform, managed by the National Supercomputing Internet Consortium, has processed over 270 million jobs cumulatively, with an average daily job count exceeding 300,000 and peaking at over 1 million jobs per day. The infrastructure includes more than 3.5 million CPU cores and over 250,000 GPU cards, according to IThome (IThome).

Ecosystem Growth

The platform's application marketplace now hosts over 880 merchants, with more than 240,000 orders placed. These applications span scientific research, artificial intelligence, and industrial simulation, reflecting the platform's broad utility across various high-performance computing needs.

Launched in April 2023 following a directive from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Supercomputing Internet aims to unify and coordinate the country's supercomputing resources. The National High-Performance Computer Engineering Technology Research Center serves as the chair of the consortium.

Earlier this year, in January, the platform announced that its user base had surpassed 1 million, meaning it has added over 700,000 users in just eight months. This rapid growth underscores the increasing demand for high-performance computing resources in China, driven by AI development and scientific research.

The milestone also highlights the country's push for technological self-reliance, with domestic computing power now dominating the platform. This shift is significant as it reduces dependence on foreign chip technology, which has been a strategic priority for Beijing amid ongoing export controls.
