Chengdu-Chongqing High-Speed Railway Completes Ballastless Track Laying

The Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway has completed its ballastless track installation, setting the stage for a 50-minute journey between the two cities once operational.

According to ITHome, citing CCTV News and the Yangtze River沿岸 Railway Group Chongqing Company, the final section of ballastless track on the new Chengdu-Chongqing high-speed railway was poured on September 14 at the Jingkou Jialing River Bridge construction site. This milestone paves the way for the line to open on schedule.

Key Details of the Line

The 292-kilometer railway is designed for a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph), connecting Chongqing North Station in the east with Chengdu Station in the west. It passes through Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area, Shapingba, Bishan, Tongliang, and Dazu districts, as well as Ziyang in Sichuan Province.

Once operational, travel time between Chengdu and Chongqing will be reduced to about 50 minutes, significantly cutting the current journey time and boosting the economic integration of the Chengdu-Chongqing region.

Broader Network Integration

The new line is a key component of China's "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed rail network, specifically the Yangtze River corridor. It will interconnect with existing lines such as Xi'an-Chengdu and Zhengzhou-Chongqing, and with under-construction projects like Xining-Chengdu and Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou, enhancing regional connectivity.

The completion of ballastless track installation is a major engineering step, as this type of track provides greater stability and requires less maintenance than traditional ballasted track, ensuring smoother and faster rides.
