Changan Automobile has opened pre-sales for its new Q06 mid-size SUV, priced from 147,900 yuan (about $20,800) for the battery-electric version. The model is the first to carry the company's self-developed TianShu intelligent driving assistance system, which includes an end-to-end large model in its top Ultra trim. The launch took place at a press event in Chongqing on September 4, according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (DianDongBang).
The Q06 is offered in nine variants, covering both BEV (battery-electric) and EREV (range-extender) powertrains. BEV versions range from 147,900 to 189,900 yuan (about $20,800 to $26,700), while the two EREV models are priced between 157,900 and 169,900 yuan (about $22,200 to $23,900). These are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives. Pre-sale benefits include deposit discounts, trade-in subsidies, and a lifetime warranty on the battery, motor, and electronic control.
The Q06 aims to stand out in the crowded mid-size SUV segment by combining advanced hardware with a competitive price. Higher trims come with a 256-line LiDAR, a 560 TOPS computing chip, and a front double-wishbone and rear five-link suspension—specs typically found in more expensive vehicles. The entry version already includes a relatively complete set of standard equipment, according to the report.
TianShu ADAS and cabin tech
The TianShu system, developed entirely in-house by Changan, uses an end-to-end large model in the Ultra version. It is powered by a Horizon Journey 6P chip delivering 560 TOPS of computing power, with perception handled by a 256-line LiDAR, three millimeter-wave radars, 11 high-definition cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Features include highway and urban navigation assistance, interactive navigation, all-scenario obstacle avoidance, and automatic ramp entry and exit. The parking system supports complex space parking, memory parking, and reverse tracking.
One notable feature is interactive navigation, which allows the driver to issue a single command such as “change left and accelerate to 80, turn right at the intersection and pull over,” and the system executes the entire sequence without step-by-step instructions. Changan has invested heavily in self-developed technology, spending 61 billion yuan (about $8.6 billion) on R&D during the 14th Five-Year Plan period and planning to increase that to 100 billion yuan (about $14.1 billion) in the next cycle, with a team of 7,500 people focused on intelligent systems.
The cabin is equipped with the TianShu Cockpit 2.0, built around a MediaTek 4nm automotive-grade 8676 chip and an Infineon TC399 zone controller. The TianShu agent supports complex intent scheduling and one-command multi-control. A four-map fusion feature combines base navigation, lane-level navigation, environment reconstruction, and sensor perception data into a single display, reducing the driver's need to switch between screens at complex intersections.
Chassis and range
The Q06 features a front double-wishbone and rear five-link all-aluminum suspension with four hydraulic damping adaptive adjustment systems, tuned by a German team over nine months. It also debuts a distributed dual-motor rear drive that allows the rear wheels to rotate independently for in-place turns, plus a virtual rear differential lock and drift mode. A tire-blowout stability system monitors tire pressure every 50 milliseconds and can maintain control at speeds up to 190 km/h (118 mph).
The BEV version is powered by an 80.02 kWh battery, offering a claimed CLTC range of 700 km (435 miles; WLTP est. 560-595 km). It supports 800V silicon carbide fast charging with 6C capability, charging from 30% to 80% in 9 minutes. The EREV version uses a 28.39 kWh battery and a self-developed hybrid platform, with a combined range of 1,600 km (994 miles). The Q06 measures 2,940 mm in wheelbase, with a rear cabin height of 1.3 meters and a flat floor width of 479 mm. Rear seats offer 145-degree power recline, and all seats come with ventilation, heating, and massage. A 15.6-inch ceiling screen with electric sunshade adds a cinema-like experience for rear passengers.
The Q06's pricing and feature set make it a strong contender in the mid-size SUV market, but its long-term success will depend on real-world reviews and customer feedback, the report notes.
