Changan Kaicheng launches V919 Glory Edition 8 with 355 km CLTC range

Changan Kaicheng's V919 Glory Edition 8, an electric light van, launched with a limited-time price of 88,900 yuan (about $12,500) and a CLTC range of 355 km.

Changan Kaicheng has launched the V919 Glory Edition 8, an electric light commercial van, with a limited-time price starting at 88,900 yuan (about $12,500). The model is available in two trims, priced between 88,900 and 90,900 yuan (about $12,800) during the promotional period, according to PCauto, which reported the launch on October 13.

The V919 Glory Edition 8 is powered by a 70 kW (94 hp) electric motor producing 175 Nm of torque, with a top speed of 100 km/h. It uses a 50.715 kWh battery supplied by CATL, which provides a CLTC-rated range of 355 km. In real-world terms, that translates to roughly 284-302 km under WLTP conditions (est.), as CLTC figures tend to be 15-20% more optimistic. The battery supports 2C fast charging, allowing a 30% to 80% charge in just 15 minutes, which adds about 200 km of range.

Designed for cargo efficiency

The van measures 5,495 mm long, 1,910 mm wide, and 1,990 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,500 mm. It offers seating for 2, 3, 6, or 7 passengers and features a combination of a side-hinged rear door and a sliding side door. The cargo area is 1,740 mm wide, 40 mm wider than some rivals, allowing for an extra standard pallet position. The 3,380 mm cargo length can accommodate 3.3-meter building materials or large furniture without diagonal loading. A 1,450 mm-wide rear opening simplifies loading of bulky items.

The vehicle's chassis uses a ten-longitudinal and five-transverse frame structure with a high-strength steel content of 68.5%. It features five-leaf rear leaf springs, two to three more than some competitors, improving load capacity and ride quality. Rear-wheel drive provides better traction on slippery slopes, and the van can start on a 20% wet incline when fully loaded.

Safety and durability features

Standard safety equipment includes ESC and hill-start assist. The braking system uses an IBCU (integrated brake control unit) that reduces the 70 km/h emergency braking distance to 21.53 meters when fully loaded, 3.4 meters shorter than some rivals, potentially avoiding 90% of rear-end collisions. The battery pack has ten layers of physical protection, IP68 dust and water resistance, and 24-hour cloud monitoring. It meets the 2026 battery safety standard and comes with an 8-year or 600,000 km warranty.

The V919 Glory Edition 8 underwent extreme environment testing from -40°C to 48°C and covered over 3 million kilometers in real-world testing across 140 different conditions. Changan Kaicheng is also offering multiple purchase incentives, including platform pricing, trade-in subsidies, and financing discounts.
