Cadillac has added an entry-level Air trim to its XT5 PHEV (plug-in hybrid) lineup in China, priced at 239,900 yuan (about $33,800) as a limited-time offer, undercutting the previous starting point for a luxury midsize plug-in SUV. The move follows a strong debut: the XT5 PHEV sold 3,892 units in its first month and delivered more than 3,000 cars, topping the luxury plug-in hybrid SUV sales chart in September, according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (Dian Dong Bang).
The Air version carries a suggested retail price of 290,000 yuan, with a launch price of 259,900 yuan. After stacking a two-year anniversary purchase subsidy and a trade-in subsidy, the limited-time offer drops to 239,900 yuan, valid for invoices issued before October 31. The Pro and Pro Max trims are priced at 259,900 yuan and 279,900 yuan respectively, filling the range from 239,900 to 279,900 yuan. All prices are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.
Powertrain and range
Despite the lower price, the Air trim keeps the dual-motor four-wheel-drive setup standard. The P1 plus P3 plus P4 hybrid architecture delivers a combined system output of 385 kW (about 516 hp) and 740 N·m of torque, with a 0-100 km/h sprint of 4.8 seconds. WLTC combined fuel consumption is 0.61 litres per 100 km, rising to 6.05 litres when the battery is depleted, and the car runs on 92-octane petrol.
The battery provides 215 km of pure electric range on the CLTC cycle, which translates to roughly 172-183 km on the more realistic WLTP cycle (est.). Total combined range is 1,360 km. Fast charging takes the battery from 30% to 80% in 15 minutes, and a 6 kW external discharge function can power common camping appliances. The 60-litre fuel tank supports long highway trips with short stops at service areas.
Cadillac stresses that acceleration performance stays consistent whether the battery is full or depleted, with the gap between the two states controlled at around 0.6 seconds. The hybrid system prioritises electric drive at low speeds in urban areas and switches to engine direct drive during highway cruising, with automatic mode selection.
Safety, warranty and equipment
The XT5 PHEV carries over the model line's all-road capability. The second-generation RTD pre-aiming suspension scans the road 500 times per second and can identify speed bumps and manhole covers 20 metres ahead, with the electric four-wheel-drive system responding in 50 milliseconds. The top trim adds Brembo six-piston calipers and a comfort braking system that limits pitch angle to 0.23 degrees during stops.
Cadillac says the new model completed development validation across two winters and two summers, including extreme cold in Heihe, high temperatures in Turpan, humidity in Hainan, high altitude in Golmud and saline conditions in Guangde. The three-electric system durability test is equivalent to 500,000 km of user driving, exceeding the national standard of 240,000 km. The car previously reached an altitude of 5,884 metres in stock condition.
On battery safety, the company cites a zero-fire record over 6.4 billion km, with thermal runaway warning standards set at 150 times the national requirement and water-fording tests at four times the national standard. The battery pack floor can withstand a 10 kg steel ball impact at 28 km/h. First-owner non-commercial buyers receive a lifetime warranty on the three-electric system, a three-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty, and an eight-year or 160,000 km powertrain warranty.
The Air trim includes a 33-inch curved display, sentry mode, a silver-ion cooler box and cabin fragrance, plus an OMS camera that detects children and pets and issues reminders. Seats are wrapped in Fine Nappa leather with a flat rear floor. The Air version comes with L2 driver assistance, four-zone voice recognition, one-touch parking and reverse tracking. Higher trims add urban and highway navigation assistance, a LiDAR-equipped Momenta R7 world model, a Snapdragon 8775P chip, AKG audio and the RTD suspension.
Cadillac also offers a replacement guarantee: if a single accident within three years causes damage exceeding 30% of the invoice price, the company will replace the vehicle free of charge, with 736 owners said to have used this benefit so far. The package includes a free home charging pile, lifetime basic connectivity, five years of free entertainment data, and 36-month financing with an annual rate as low as 0.99% on Pro and above trims.
