BYD's Fangchengbao brand will launch its new S series of electric sedans on September 16, according to NetEase Auto. The lineup, which includes the Fangcheng S and the Fangcheng S GT, will make its debut at the same event, following a first public appearance at the Beijing auto show in April.
The S series is positioned as a mid-to-large C-segment offering, with a length of about 5 meters, a wheelbase of 3 meters, and a width of 2 meters. It features a low, wide stance and a "one car, two forms" concept: the standard S focuses on driving dynamics, while the S GT emphasizes a shooting brake lifestyle. Both variants come with a 151-liter front trunk, with the S offering 600 liters of rear cargo space and the GT 537 liters.
Orders are already open, with prices ranging from 230,000 to 280,000 yuan (about $32,400 to $39,400) before taxes and incentives. The S series is the latest addition to Fangchengbao's lineup, following the Leopard and Titan series, and is built on BYD's "life metal aesthetics" design language.
Range and performance
The S series is powered by a next-generation permanent magnet synchronous motor, paired with BYD's CTB (cell-to-body) technology and second-generation blade batteries with a capacity of 92.2 kWh. The long-range version achieves a CLTC range of up to 900 km (about 720-765 km WLTP est.), a figure that is typically 15-20% more optimistic than the WLTP standard.
Both models come equipped with BYD's intelligent magnetorheological suspension, dubbed YunNian-M, which is derived from the brand's million-yuan supercar technology. The suspension, combined with air springs and a feature called "Sky Eye B" (an advanced driver assistance system), aims to enhance handling and enable drift capabilities. The cars also support fast charging, though specific charging times were not disclosed.
Smart cabin and design
Inside, the S series runs BYD's new Smart Ecosystem 2.0, which introduces three open interfaces - PIN, magnetic, and threaded - allowing for expanded customization and integration with lifestyle accessories. The cabin offers SUV-like headroom, with 1018 mm in the front and 928 mm in the rear for the S, and 932 mm for the S GT.
Exterior details include "Feng Bao Eye" headlights and an "Infinite Loop" taillight design, along with front spoilers, wide fenders, and rear diffusers. The S GT features a 21-degree shooting brake angle, while the S L variant (mentioned in the source) adds a transverse metal grille and an electric rear wing.
The S series is the second C-segment sedan from BYD after the Denza Z9 GT, and it aims to combine style, performance, and practicality in a single package. The launch is set for September 16, with deliveries expected to follow.
