BYD's Fangchengbao brand has launched two new battery-electric models, the Fang S fastback and the Fang S GT shooting brake, with Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives starting at 189,900 yuan (about $26,700) for the Fang S and 219,900 yuan (about $31,000) for the Fang S GT, according to NetEase Auto.
Design and dimensions
The Fang S and Fang S GT share design language with Fangchengbao's Formula X sports car concept, featuring a low, wide stance, "Fengbao Eye" headlights and "Infinite Loop" tail lights. The Fang S GT adds a transverse metal grille and an electric rear wing, and has a 21-degree shooting brake angle. Both models offer six paint colors, including Fashion Green, Dynamic Yellow, Modern Red, Tech Silver, Trendy Pink and Hardcore Black, plus a peelable paint option.
The Fang S measures 5,060 mm long, 1,967 mm wide and 1,483 mm tall, while the Fang S GT is slightly shorter at 5,025 mm; both share a 2,960 mm wheelbase. The cabin features a 128-color ambient light, a floating center screen, a 26-inch AR head-up display, a 151-liter front trunk, and a 600-liter boot in the Fang S (537 liters in the GT). Seats are zero-gravity style with heating, ventilation and massage, and a Devialet sound system is standard.
Powertrain and range
The Fang S series is offered in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The rear-drive Fang S comes in two power outputs, 245 kW (about 329 hp) and 300 kW (about 402 hp), while the rear-drive Fang S GT is available only with the 300 kW motor. The all-wheel drive versions combine 490 kW (about 657 hp). The Fang S's maximum CLTC range is 900 km on the second-generation Blade battery, with flash charging that takes the pack from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. As a guide, a CLTC figure of 900 km corresponds to roughly 720-765 km on the more conservative WLTP cycle (est.).
The cars debut Fangchengbao's Yunian-M intelligent magnetorheological suspension, which responds within 1 ms and adjusts damping up to 1,000 times per second, with preview sensing that reads road surface undulations ahead. Some versions instead use the Yunian-A air suspension with dual-chamber air springs and CDC variable damping. A drift mode, including an assisted drift function, is also offered.
Standard driver assistance is the God's Eye-B system, which supports highway and city navigation-assisted driving (urban NOA, or city advanced driver assistance) and all-scenario smart parking. The cabin runs the new Smart Ecosystem 2.0 with a DIVA smart dashboard above the center screen that displays dynamic expressions, vehicle status and safety alerts, plus open interfaces for magnetic ambient lights, physical shortcut buttons and a guitar accessory for in-car karaoke.
