BYD's personalised-vehicle brand Fangchengbao has passed 600,000 cumulative sales, reaching the milestone just two months after passing 500,000 in August, according to Chinese outlet NetEase Auto. The brand, founded three years ago, reached the figure in 35 months and has now posted three straight months among the top three best-selling new-energy brands in China by monthly volume.
Fangchengbao, which BYD positions in the 200,000-yuan (about $28,200) and above segment, has built its line-up around electric off-road and lifestyle models. Its current range includes the Bao 5 and Bao 8 SUVs, the Ti 3 and Ti 7 models, and the new Fangcheng S series of all-scenario sedans. The brand says its average transaction price is 222,000 yuan (about $31,300), with the Bao 5 averaging 264,000 yuan (about $37,200), the Bao 8 at 397,000 yuan (about $55,900) and the Ti 7 at 209,000 yuan (about $29,400).
Resale value as a selling point
Fangchengbao says it has avoided the low-price, high-volume route common in China's price war, instead leaning on product quality and resale value. According to data from the China Automobile Dealers Association cited by NetEase Auto, its Ti 7, Bao 8 and Bao 5 rank in the top 15 among PHEV (plug-in hybrid) models for retained value, while the Ti 3 is in the top 10 among BEV (battery-electric) models.
The brand says the Ti 7, launched more than a year ago, still sells around 30,000 units a month and tops the large-SUV sales chart. The Bao 5 helped open up the electric off-road segment, while the Bao 8 added smart features to the hard-core off-road class, and the Ti 3 targets a younger, tech-focused buyer.
New models and expansion plans
The Fangcheng S series, launched in September, has drawn strong orders and is now in delivery, with Taiwanese singer Tseng Pei-tzu attending a handover event in Shenzhen, the brand said. Fangchengbao plans to add the Ti 9 and a pickup truck to its line-up, which it says could push monthly sales above 60,000 units.
Fangchengbao is a core part of BYD's push upmarket, filling a gap in the group's portfolio for personalised vehicles. The brand draws on BYD's DMO electric off-road platform, the Yunian-P Ultra hydraulic suspension system and its intelligent EVO pure-electric platform, covering extreme off-road, long-distance travel and urban commuting.
The brand says its growth reflects a system built on technology, product, brand and users, with an app community and offline clubs supporting word-of-mouth growth. Since its founding three years ago, Fangchengbao has built a user base of 600,000 owners, which it says has turned into its most durable asset.
