BYD's off-road-focused Fangchengbao brand will officially launch its new Fang S and Fang S GT models on September 16, according to the Chinese automotive news outlet Chezhiwang. The two battery-electric SUVs, which have already opened for pre-orders, will come in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, featuring BYD's latest DiSus-M intelligent magnetorheological suspension and the God's Eye B advanced driver assistance system.
Design and Interior
The Fang S and Fang S GT adopt a "life metal aesthetics" design language, with a closed front grille and "sharp leopard eye" headlights. Buyers can choose from four exterior colors: tech silver, fashion green, dynamic yellow, and modern red. The side profile features semi-hidden door handles that balance aerodynamics with reliability, while the rear is highlighted by an "infinite loop" taillight design. A rear spoiler and bottom diffuser add a sporty touch.
Inside, the cabin combines an embedded digital instrument cluster with a floating central touchscreen. The gear selector is an electronic column-mounted shifter, and several frequently used functions retain physical buttons for ease of use.
Powertrain and Range
Powertrain options vary by model. The Fang S offers a two-wheel-drive version with either a 245 kW (328 hp) or 300 kW (402 hp) motor, and a four-wheel-drive version with a combined output of 490 kW (657 hp). The Fang S GT similarly provides a 300 kW (402 hp) rear-drive variant and a 490 kW (657 hp) all-wheel-drive variant.
Both models are equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs with capacities of 76.744 kWh and 92.093 kWh. Depending on the configuration, the CLTC-rated driving range spans 730 km, 750 km, 770 km, 830 km, and 900 km. Note that CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP, so the corresponding WLTP estimates (est.) would be roughly 585-765 km, depending on the version.
As with all Chinese-market EVs, the official guide price (before taxes and incentives) will be announced at launch. The Fang S and Fang S GT are expected to compete in the premium electric SUV segment, where BYD's Fangchengbao brand sits above its mainstream Dynasty and Ocean series.
Chezhiwang says it will continue to report on further details as they become available closer to the launch date.
