BYD's personalized brand Fangchengbao has passed 600,000 cumulative sales, the company announced on October 18, according to Chinese automotive outlet Gasgoo. The brand, launched in June 2023, reached the milestone in about 35 months, with the jump from 500,000 to 600,000 taking just two months.
Fangchengbao, which means "equation leopard," focuses on hardcore off-road SUVs and sporty sedans. Its first model, the Bao 5, debuted in 2023, followed by the Bao 8, Bao 3 and Tai 7, building a lineup of mid-size to large SUVs across the Bao and Tai product families.
First sedans target Xiaomi SU7 and Tesla Model 3
In September 2026, Fangchengbao launched two sedans, the Fangcheng S and Fangcheng S GT, priced at 189,900 to 229,900 yuan (about $26,700 to $32,400) and 219,900 to 239,900 yuan (about $31,000 to $33,800) respectively, marking the brand's entry into the sedan segment. These are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.
The Fangcheng S series is the first to feature the YunNian-M suspension system and is positioned against the Xiaomi SU7 and Tesla Model 3, according to Gasgoo. Fangchengbao general manager Xiong Tianbo has said the brand's core hardware strategy is "entry-level with full luxury features as standard."
Fangchengbao's rapid growth builds on BYD's strengths in battery, motor and electronic control technology, supply chain integration and manufacturing, with the DMO super hybrid off-road platform and YunNian chassis as key competitive advantages. As a BEV (battery-electric) and PHEV (plug-in hybrid) focused brand under BYD, Fangchengbao now competes in both the off-road and sporty sedan segments.
Competition intensifies in personalized market
With its product matrix expanding and entry into sedans, Fangchengbao aims to grow its share of the personalized vehicle market. However, competition in hardcore off-road and sporty sedan segments is intensifying, with rivals such as Tank and Yangwang accelerating their own launches, meaning Fangchengbao must keep innovating, Gasgoo noted.
The 600,000-unit milestone underscores how quickly BYD's sub-brands can scale, leveraging the parent company's vertically integrated supply chain and manufacturing capacity. Fangchengbao now covers both rugged SUVs and performance sedans, broadening its appeal beyond its original off-road niche.
